Can anyone tell me what institutions (for the deaf, dumb, blind, mentally incompetent, ect.) existed in Chicago, circa 1870? And how ould I go about finding them in the 1870 census? Thanks, Janet C in NY

I have no idea how to find the institutions by themselves, I find them looking for people. I have a bunch of connections (I track all my family and then if they died and the mate remarries I track them too) who all ended in institutions. But I would think you could find the institution in a city directory and then find the ED and work that way.
