Hello - I'm stymied as to where to find information about a possible adoption from around 1903-04. My grandmother, Marguerite Edna BLISS was a child of Francis Marion BLISS and Florence Edna STEBBINS. She was born May 1, 1903 (or 1904). We've always had strong suspicions that she and several of her other siblings were adopted. When she tried to find her birth certificate from Cook County where the family resided for several years she was told one didn't exist. I believe she was able to finally get a facsimile of one issued from Dixon, Illinois. The family lived in Chicago for a number of years - they are found in the 1900 and 1910 census. They lived around the Hyde Park area. We have been told that Frank (Francis) was an Arch Deacon in the Baptist Church and I see that Hyde Park Baptist Church is in the area where they lived and possibly the church they attended. Does anyone know if adoption records were kept during this time period, or if possibly church records might record information of a possible adoption? Really don't know how to proceed to find out more about this and would appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thank you, Marcia Dykstra
