I received amazing information, including details of the murder of Police Patrolman Edward Appleyard Duddles in January 1895. Thank you all very much. Just thought I should raise the fact that the DUDDLES name appears in our area in Lake County, Illinois. Evidently the Smith Family who owned the land upon which Ivanhoe Country Club now stands were somehow Peripherally connected with the DUDDLES name. In fact, when building the golf course they came upon a Marker with DUDDLES name on it. Construction ground to a halt until it was determined that this was The grave of a dearly-loved hunting dog that had been buried on their property. The DUDDLES name also appears on grave markers in the Ivanhoe (village) graveyard adjacent to the Ivanhoe Church (don't recall the protestant denomination). Just thought you might want this information about another locale in which the DUDDLES name occurs.
