Viggo from Bergen, Norway is looking for information on this Anna who died 1942, Chicago. An obit might help. I will add a part of a research email below. I'm not sure if all of you like seeing research emails, if not let me know and I will not send them. The Madtsen obit several of you found last week helped Viggo add data to his work. He has asked me to try for a death certificate. Someone sent information on ordering, would you please send this to me again. I reformatted my computer this weekend and lost all email work of the last few weeks. Al Askevold ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ From Viggo to cousin Jean. subject--Strandebarm/Voss birth record for Lars Samsonson Bryn Jean, Yes, it is same man that I have as likely candidate too. In 1930 he is listed as "Buyer / Retail Shoe Store". I know of several from BRYN who adopted BROWN as their surname in America. In the IL State Archives I find this woman who may very well be his wife's death in Cook County, IL : Illinois Statewide Death Index, 1916–1950 BROWN ANNA M F/W Y-57 0029055 1942-10-21 COOK CHICAGO - - If we get Anna's obituary we could get "proof" that she in fact was Lars' wife, and maybe learn more abt him (e.g. if he survived her). Al helped me obtain an obit from Chicago Tribune the other day. Maybe he could help out with this one, too ? In 1875 Lars' mother (most likely) was a servant on the BRATTABØ farm in Jondal, and her father came from the ESPELAND farm in same valley (Krossdalen) according to the Vossestrand book. In 1880 Anna Larsdtr. VINSAND lived on the HAUGEN farm when she gave birth to Lars. The one who gave info re: his birth to the minister was Johannes Larsson HAUGEN who was the farmer there from 1850 until 1912 (according to the Jondal BB, Vol.1). * Tellingsår: 1875 * Kommune: Jondal * Kommunenummer: 1227 * Navn på bosted: Brattebøe Antall personer registrert på bostedet: 10 Tostein Eriksen hf g Gaardbruger, Selveier, Nodeanfører 1833 Jondals Sogn og Strandebarms Pr. Take care, Viggo ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Earlier email from Jean-- Viggo, on page 164 of Volume 4 Vossaboki it says that Lars was a forretningsmann i Chicago. I would believe that the 2 entries below are very likely him. I don’t have positive proof of this.
