    3. The online marriage indexes http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/marrlst.html show that they are starting to go beyond this date. Some counties have up to 1925. Unfortunately, Cook County is not one of them. 3. This is one of those things that wouldn't be obvious if you're used to living in---and certainly researching in---smaller places. But Cook County does not permit researchers direct access to records. It does kind of get obvious if you think about it: it's a county of 3 million people and the number of records one would expect therefrom. Not only would allowing direct access be utter chaos, but it would require more staff than the county can afford for the purpose just to watch people and make sure they don't screw up or steal the records, intentionally or otherwise. Even for non-genealogical purposes---wanting, say, a copy of your own marriage certificate---the rules are you fill out the form (whether by mail or in person), fork over the cash, and the results will be mailed to you. Not only do you not get to look, but they will *not* do the lookup "while you wait." --pig On 2/23/07 20:47, "JL" <joanne.l@worldnet.att.net> wrote: > > > Is there any one on this list that does lookups at the Cook County Court > House??? > > JL > > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > COOK-CO-IL-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes > in the subject and the body of the message
