Hello My gr grandfather Anders Madsen Askevold, A.M. Askevold, 1842-1901. Born in Norway Anders had a 30 year history in Chicago, 1869 till his death in 1901. Anders was a printer/lithographer in Chicago and is noted for a few detailed maps lithographed in the 1870's. I'm researching the 1870-1871 family history and the Chicago fire of 1871. I hope some of you might help with two locations I find in the 1870-1871 Chicago Directory. Askervold Andrew, engraver, Merchants Lith. Co., r 11 Gold. I am pretty sure I found the locations on an old 1870 street map? Gold St.-- a one block street in the area of N.Halsted and W. Harrison now part of the University Of Illinois. Merchants Lithograph-- a few blocks north of the residence at Sangamom and W. Jackson (from an old Tribune advertisement) Can anyone confirm the above locations and if they were lost in the 1871 fire? By maps the area looks to be close to the western fire line. Anyone know where to find data on this 1870 Merchants Lithograph Co. ? Regards Al Askevold SW. Missouri
