Volunteering for Circuit Court A couple of months ago someone wrote: << Does anyone know if Cook County is looking for any volunteers to put any information on line? (signed) Cheryl >> Yes, Cheryl, I do know of a Volunteering opportunity. There are old bound books in the basement of the Daley Center in Chicago that are filled with Immigration records dating back to about 1909. Each page is filled with the immigrant's name, birth date, place of birth, immigration date, location of immigration, where the immigrant is living at this time, body identification like scars, moles, etc. All this info is being input into a computer program where it will be freely accessed online in the future by any of the categories above. Volunteers are needed to input this information. They are looking for one day a week - as many hours as you wish. Since their environment is county government (circuit court), there is a required background check. Also required, is an orientation given by the Clerk of the Circuit Court's HR dept. This all takes a bit of time. So, in other words, it is not a volunteering situation where one signs up and promptly begins to work. They ask that volunteers donate three or more hours/week. Some people come every other week and work for a longer period of time, this is personal preference. Also, hours to volunteer are Monday thru Friday, 8:30-4:00 (there are no evening or weekend hours).
