    3. I have just found that there is actually a copy of the book, Chicago and the Great Conflagration, available on line: http://www.hti.umich.edu/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=moa;idno=AJA3018.0001.001 Those interested in the Chicago fire might find it interesting. 3. Thanks Bonnie for the offer to scan the map and the University of Michigan library web site. I will order a reprint of the book. I have two maps of the fire. Both were either from the Library of Congress or the map collection at the University of Illinois. The UOI has a great online collection, the 1870 Chicago street map I talked about can be found there in high detail-- (map # 54) http://images.library.uiuc.edu:8081/cdm4/browse.php?CISOROOT=%2Fmaps I am working on stories that my grandparents lost everything in the fire. I hope to prove by location that this might be true. The family changed residence each year from 1874-1877 by the Chicago Directory and moved back to Norway sometime after the 1880 census was taken. They did return to Chicago in 1889! In 1872 they might have lived in Wheaton where my grandfather birth is noted.
