Schmidt, 88, who for years personally hand-made the Silver Skates which were awarded to THE CHICAGO TRIBUNE ice skating winners, will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the chapel at 625 Busse hwy., Park Ridge. Mr. Schmidt, of Hollywood, Fla., died Wednesday in Swedish Covenant hospital. He was one of the founders of the Johnson Skate company and moved to Florida from Chicago when he retired in 1946. He came to Chicago from hs native Saxony, Germany, in 1900. He is survived by a son, Emil; a daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Weaver; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.
