Some cemeteries try to use the privacy laws to avoid helping researchers, the information we are seeking does not fall into the law as it is written. The law they are using has to do with the current financing of lots. (They are sold like real estate and in fact the deeds to the lots are at the assessor's office although impossible to actually look up that way) Most of the people we are looking for have been dead long enough ago that the lots are paid for already and basically we are just trying to find out who is in the same lot and who paid for the lot originally, so we can find the funeral home or married names of daughters or locations of the surviving family members. Be sure it is an old grave you are looking for and explain this to them or ask to speak to their parent corporation, this is what I had to do to get additional information. Thanks for clearing that up, Alice. It still seems rather strange.
