On the subject of births/midwives...is there a database for midwives anywhere that you know of? Were they required to have a license or training? My great grandfather, Carl/Charles Axel Stjernquist, was born March 21, 1884, at 2430 LaSalle (5th Ward) in Chicago and the midwife was Mary Norrman of 2413 Wentworth.
