Regarding James M(a)cDonald I found the family in the 1900 - 1910 - 1920 Census records for Chicago!! They are living on the south side where the rest of my Canadian family eventually settled. The 1900 census was especially helpful as it gives the month and year of birth which matches his known birth date. Perhaps the name of his wife and children will help in finding his obituary.
