LaVerne: I have a family that changed its name, and I was not even aware of it until I contacted a distant cousin. She said her father changed it when she was a little girl, and she never knew why. I believe it may have been because he wanted to distance himself from his ethnic heritage (Polish). Another branch of the family suddenly started claiming to be from Germany at about the same time.
