Hi Linda, Harry Volkman was a very popular weatherman in the Chicago area. He used to speak at schools. Our third grade (two teachers; I was one of them.) asked him to come to speak and the principal invited the poor man to have lunch with us at a local restaurant after his talk. (I am quite sure he had other plans but he was kind enough to join us.)I remember people coming up to get his autograph. It was a miracle he got to eat anything at all. He was famous for wearing a boutonniere. (spelling?)All the schools would present one to him and he would show them on television during his forecast. We told the florist who it was for and the florist created a doozy. I think every florist tried to outdo the next one. They became stranger and larger over the years.
