Burial will be private, in Lakewood Memorial Park. A resident of Elgin since 1935, Mrs. Beard worked as a nurse at the Elgin Mental Health Center for 43 years until her retirement. She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church of Elgin, Bethel Chapter #291 Order of the Eastern Star, and the White Shrine of Jerusalem #26. Surviving are her nephews, Frank (Marie) Minas of Phoenix, Ariz., James (Mary) McConnell of Verona, Wis., Richard McConnell of LaPorte, Ind., and Thomas (Judith) McConnell of Elgin. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Beard, in 1982; brother, William McConnell; and sister, Mary Sager . There will be no visitation.
