Hi Linda, The burial permits are not available.  It is only an 1871 - 1933 index available on film through the LDS Family History Centers and also at the Newberry library here in Chicago.  The index gives name, date and place of death....that's all.  If you should look at this index, there are a number of codes that no one seems to know along with a burial permit number, not a death certificate number.    Although not much information on the index, it can be helpful if the person died out of state or out of the county and for place of death.  I've used it to locate other family members who died at the same address.....especially babies.
