Looking in a 1871 street guide I find a name with the following address designation: res. Samuel, bet. Chicago av. and Clarinda. In the street name change database at Rootsweb, I cannot get a hit on either Samuel or Clarinda. Nor can I find them on a current Chicago map. Any ideas? Thanks, Bart

Bart asked about a street name Samuel Street which was between Chicago Avenue and Clarinda Street in an 1871 Chicago street guide. Bart, I checked the Chicago Street name change guide at the Chicago History Museum's website. You should be able to get to the street name change guide using this URL: http://www.chsmedia.org/househistory/nameChanges/start.pdf I found that Samuel Street became Hermitage Avenue from 800 to 1199 North. Hermitage Avenue is 1734 West and it runs from 34 to 7800 North and from 300 to 9100 South. Clarinda Street changed to Pearson Street with is 844 North (about a half block north of Chicago Avenue which is 800 North) from 1500 to 1799 West. I hope this helps you.
