    3. Does anyone know if the new LDS-Beta site is meant to replace the LDS-Labs pilot site?  Except for many more collections/records on the Beta site, they seem redundant, or am I missing something?   Ruth

    3. They say it is just a trial (the new Beta and there have been Betas of both the main site and the Pilot site) and some day they will merge the Pilot site and the familysearch.org but they don't say when <G> I have to appreciate they aren't messing with a good thing <G> until they have worked at it. 3. Ruth and all listers, According to the article in today's (4/29/10) Deseret News (companion newspaper to the Salt Lake City Tribune):      "Family Serach President Jay Verkler said 300 million MORE names will be available online this week      through the LDS Church's family history service.  We're going to do it (the release) on a new website        we're creating called beta.family search.org."           "The newly added records augment a few hundred million indexed names already accessible on a previous FamilSearch website.  They come largely from U.S. collections and from some parts of Europe.  Verkler said the flow of names to the Web will continue as the LDS seeks to index all of the 3.5 billion names stored on the microfilm in their mountain vault.  It will take about 10 years to index all the records, a task previously projected to take more than a century to complete.'' Hope this helps. 3. There will only be one site eventually. Usually a beta site is the precursor to the final site. If you are finding redundancy in the data, then I suspect that they have merged data from the original and pilot sites into the beta site. P.S.: Beta is a term used for a pre-release version that is put out to the testers--in this case the users-- to find any bugs in the program. Then the bug fixes are applied and the final version is released. I believe you will see only one search engine when they migrate later this year. The final version will look similar if not exactly like the beta. I am copying PaulFamilySearch, Paul Nauta, [email protected] With hopes that he can answer your question. Luke S.
