I have a George T. Shields who, according to his WWII records, was born in Chicago, Jan. 9, 1891. His father died in Chicago Jun 1891 and his certificate of death says he is married but there is no space for his wife's name nor does it give an informant's name. I am trying to find out who the mother of George 1891 is? I gather I will have no luck with a birth record from Cook County. I am assuming his parents married in Cook Co. Any possibility of finding a marriage record when I have no wife's name and no exact date of marriage only an educated guess? He did serve during WWI according to his obit. Any possibility of WWI records having this info? The one on Ancestry does not have it. The death record says the undertaker is Sheldon. Any creative ideas of how to get the name of this mother? This family originally came from Lockport, Will Co. IL. Thank you. Elaine Sacramento CA
Hi Elaine: What religion was he? Since you have his birth date, you could locate their address at the time of his birth through the directory. With that you could locate the nearest church to that address and search the baptism records. It takes a little investigating but well worth it if you can find the baptism. You do have to keep in mind though, that they would have attended the nearest church of their nationality. If they were German, most likely would've attended the nearest German church, etc. You may even find their marriage at the same church.
