Donna, Bridewell was the first Chicago city jail. It was at the corner of Polk and Wells streets. My great-great grandfather, David Walsh, was the first Keeper of the Bridewell, approved by the City Council in 1856. The city jail was later moved to another location. Nancy Thomas
