    3. Hi Gail, In my research I found several people who married outside the Catholic Church, and I wondered about them. I guess it might have made a difference how old they were, how close they lived to the rest of the family, and how "Catholic" they considered themselves. All of them were buried from a Catholic Church, but at that point the priest does not need to check their Catholic ID to see if they were practicing. I have two who married in the Lutheran Church and one who married in the Methodist Church. Doing this did provide a "church wedding" for the benefit of their parents and other family members who might have otherwise been upset. There is probably no way to know for sure unless a living relative knows the real story.
