I've "rescued" an old photograph of Susan CRAWFORD which was taken at the Varney Studio in Chicago, Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Susan likely in her 30's or 40's at the time it was taken. In addition to her name, someone has written "killed in Chicago by a street car" on the back of the photograph. I was able to locate a possible match in census records as follows: 1880 census of Chicago, IL: John H. CRAWFORD, age 26, born Canada, a Works in Retail Stationary, parents born Ireland Susan CRAWFORD, age 45, born Canada, a Dressmaker, parents born Ireland Cora SEARLES, age 22, born IL, Clerk in Retail Store, parents born NY/ME All three are single and no relationship between them is identified I'm hoping to locate someone from Susan's family so that this lovely old photograph can be returned to the care of her family.
