    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Sherman WILLARD which was taken at the W. H. Willard - Jones Studio in Chicago, Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the early 1900's with Sherman likely in his 20's or 30's at the time it was taken. I am hoping to locate someone from this WILLARD Family, so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to the care of family. 3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Susan CRAWFORD which was taken at the Varney Studio in Chicago, Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1880's or 1890's with Susan likely in her 30's or 40's at the time it was taken. In addition to her name, someone has written "killed in Chicago by a street car" on the back of the photograph. I was able to locate a possible match in census records as follows: 1880 census of Chicago, IL: John H. CRAWFORD, age 26, born Canada, a Works in Retail Stationary, parents born Ireland Susan CRAWFORD, age 45, born Canada, a Dressmaker, parents born Ireland Cora SEARLES, age 22, born IL, Clerk in Retail Store, parents born NY/ME All three are single and no relationship between them is identified I'm hoping to locate someone from Susan's family so that this lovely old photograph can be returned to the care of her family. 1. [COOK-CO-IL] RANDOLPH Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph identified only as "RANDOLPH" which was taken at the Jones Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's with the man in the photograph likely in his 20's at the time the photograph was taken. The photograph was recovered along with others belonging to the 1878 Class of Brown University including both students and staff. Based on that information I was able to locate records for Richard Kidder RANDOLPH who was a member of the Class of 1878 at Brown. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Richard and his family: Richard Kidder RANDOLPH III was b. about 1855 in RI, the son of Richard Kidder RANDOLPH Jr. (b. 1814) and Isabele or Isabella Watson UPDIKE. Richard III was one of 4 children born to this couple including, Annie Maria; Elizabeth Lyman; Richard Kidder; and Susan RANDOLPH. Richard married Mary DOREMUS. He was a lawyer practicing in Woonsocket, RI and Chicago, IL. Richard died 23 Sept 1901 in South Kingston, RI at the age of 47. Census records provide the following information: 1860 census of Blackstone, MA: Richard K. RANDOLPH, age 45, a Clerk, born RI Isabella W. RANDOLPH, age 40, born RI Anna M. RANDOLPH, age 14, born ME Elizabeth RANDOLPH, age 9, born PA Richard K. RANDOLPH, age 5, born RI + 1 Domestic Servant 1865 census of Blackstone, MA: Richard K. 3. Two of the best resources for Chicago Genealogy that are free are the Vital Records Search at the Cook County Clerk's website, and also the FamilySearch.org site has Chicago births, marriages and deaths for free! http://cookcountygenealogy.com The records from above cost, but the index itself is helpful, and often the records from above, you can find at familysearch. They have lots of Illinois databases, the births are at the next 2 urls https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=http://hr-search-api:8080/searchapi/search/collection/1462519 https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=http://hr-search-api:8080/searchapi/search/collection/1463129 Cook County Death to 1922 https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=http://hr-search-api:8080/searchapi/search/collection/1463134 Illinois Deaths 1916-1947 https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/show#uri=http://hr-search-api:8080/searchapi/search/collection/1438856 The Family Search Illinois marriages seem to only go to about 1920 as far as I know. If the above URLs break, you can try on my births page listed further below, or through the main Family Search Menu for North America at https://www.familysearch.org/s/collection/list#page=1&region=NORTH_AMERICA I have the links for all the free Illinois birth and baptism databases I have been able to find, on the following page, click on United States A-Z on left menu and then on Illinois http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~thecohens/birthindexes-usa.html Oh dear, now I see your family came in 1923, the above may still help find records for the spouses of the daughter if he was born in Cook. Thanks, yes a few folks have also written off list about that, and I have been so busy following up on the leads that I have not posted progress as it has been changing so fast. If you look closely at the 1930 census image, you will see the boys are in an alphabetical list with the T's, and it turns out the surname was Tishman, mistranscribed in a number of places, notably the 1920 and 1930 censuses. It seems that Emma, Benjamin and Irving died in California as Tishmans, I have still not been able to find Emma or Abraham in the 1930 census. The orphanage records from Ancestry show Emma taking them out of the orphanage after 1930. I am still hunting records, but thanks to the wonderful list members of this list, am on a more productive tract. If anyone can find Emma in 1930, that would be especially appreciated, I still have not found her. Who she is living with might be very, very helpful. To recap, she was born December 1892 in Russia (likely Russian Poland), immigrated 1910, naturalized 1917, apparently came with her husband? 1930 census may tell us when they married. Have not found a marriage for them here in NYC. According to the 1920 census in Chicago, her maiden name would have been Weinzimmer, as Rachel Weintzimmer was Abram's mother in law. But the California Death Index Entry for Benjamin gives a mother's maiden name of SIMBERG. So I am stumped, hunting for more records. Emma's death entry has no maiden name, so her death certificate is not going to solve that question.

    3. Hello, There ia a Benjamin and Irving Fishman shown in the 1930 census living at the Brooklyn Hebrew Orphan Asylum. Irving is shown to be 12 years old and "Benj" 13 years old, living in New York state, Kings county, Brooklyn, ED 24-670 and sheet 16A. One could theorize that their parents had to give them up for some reason or that their parents were deceased. Bye, Dave Otto

    2. I'm sending separately an obit for an Irving Fishman, 1916-1970, but it doesn't mention a brother Benjamin, so may not be yours. If the census says Rachel was Abram's mother-in-law, then she was Emma's mother and Jacob her brother. There are several possible marriages for Irving and Benjamin on the Cook County Web site, but you have to pay to view. All in the 1940s and 1950s, which would seem late for your Irving and Benjamin. I think I saw that but this is a good reminder, it does not mention the cemetery but does give an address for the chapel, maybe I can track that down. Hastily prepared obituaries sometimes leave names out, confounding our research. > If the census says Rachel was Abram's mother-in-law, then she was Emma's > mother and Jacob her brother. No, Jacob is definitely her son. It says Rachel is mother-in-law, Jacob is brother-in-law, and I have him and Rachel together in the 1910 and 1930 censuses as mother and son. I have been doing a complete surname study, so I am confident there is not another Jacob/Rachel Weinzimmer pair in the USA of their ages. > There are several possible marriages for Irving and Benjamin on the Cook > County Web site... Thanks for the reminder, I will look at those again more carefully. But I still especially need to find Emma's death so I can see who it says her parents are. There is a very young Emma Fishman whose death I found who I do not think is her. It ought to be possible to find Emma and Abram after 1920. I wonder if her first name was really something else, a Yiddish or Hebrew name that was misunderstood by the census taker. Thanks again!

    3. I have 1910 and 1920 censuses in Chicago which are inconsistent with each other and confusing for Jacob Weinzimmer and his mother Rachel, with regards to how many children Rachel had. Weinzimmer is spelled Weintzimmer in 1920. In 1910, they are shown at 1401 Washburn Avenue in Chicago Rachel Weinzimmer age 53 born Russia immig 1907 Jacob Weinzimmer age 21 born Russia immig 1905 It says Rachel is widowed, had 7 children, 1 surviving. But then, in the 1920 census, I find Jacob and Rachel living as in laws to Abram Fishman and his wife Emma on South Western Avenue in Chicago. If I read it right, the household composition is Fishman Abram Head age 28 Russia immig 1910, naturalized 1917 Fishman Emma Wife age 28 Russia immig 1910, naturalized 1917 Rachel Weintzimmer, mo-in-law age 65 born Russia immig 1908 Jacob Weintzimmer, bro-in-law age 30 born Russia immig 1908 Fishman Benjamin Son age 3-7/12 b. New York Fishman Erving Son age 2-3/12 b. New York I know what happened to Jacob and Rachel, they moved to Los Angeles by the 1930 census and both died before 1940. I have their death certificates. I also have Jacob's passenger lists, naturalization record and ww1 draft registration. I suppose it is possible that Jacob was married at some point, and that Emma was the brother of a former wife of Jacob, but if he was widowed or divorced, I would hope that would show in the 1920 census. And I doubt that Rachel would be listed as Abram's mother in law. What I most need to do is find for the Fishmans, their immigration/passenger list and also find out what happened to the Fishmans so I can confirm or refute that Emma and Jacob were really siblings and locate Emma's children and grandchildren. I have hunted high and low in New York and Illinois and not been able to find any records that I can be sure are these Fishmans. Any help with this would be appreciated.
