I've "rescued" an old photograph identified only as "STAPLES" which was taken at the Benj. F. Jones Studio in Providence, Rhode Island. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's with the young man in the photograph likely in his teens or 20's at the time. The photograph was recovered along with others belonging to the Class of 1878 from Brown University. Based on research I did locate Charles Jason STAPLES in the Class of 1878 at Brown, so I believe that this is a photograph of him. Based on limited research I was able to gather the following information regarding Charles and his family as follows: Charles Jason STAPLES was b. 20 May 1856 in Meadville, PA to parents Carlton Albert STAPLES (b. 20 Mar 1827 in Mendon, MA) and Priscilla SHIPPEN (b. 20 Nov 1819 in PA). Charles married Grace Maria DEAN (b. 16 Jan 1890 in Lexington, MA) on 16 Jan 1890 in Lexington, MA and together they had 5 children including, Lawrence Carlton; Elliot Shippen; Robert Taft; Charles Warren; and Priscilla STAPLES, all born between 1891 and 1899. Charles became a Reverend and passed sometime after 1930. Census records provide the following information: 1870 census of Chicago, IL: Carlton A. STAPLES, age 55, a Clergyman, born MA Priscilla STAPLES, age 55, Keeping House, born PA Charles J. Good Day List Members, Could someone tell me if there is any on-line website that lists the business directories for Chicago from approx.1925 to 1935? I have a family photo of a tailors establishment with the two proprietors standing in the doorway of a business. Above the door is the number 3225 (street address?) Only one window of the shop is shown in the photo and the writing on it says: LADIES AND GENTS TAILORS J A CALDER A FARRINGTON I know the one fellow is Andrew Farrington but I have no idea the dame of the establishment. I cannot find Andrew or J A Calder on the 1930 Illinois census but I feel that the business is in or near Chicago from family. If anyone has any idea how to search for this business or Andrew, please give me suggestions. Thank you. Andrew was born in Herefordshire and I’ve found him on the 1911 census living in Abergavenny, Wales, age 19, listed as a tailor. There are no later census published for the British Isles so dont know when he emigrated from there to US. Gladys in Alberta

Hi Listers: Does anyone remember the John Madsen family who lived at 6420 Francisco Avenue. They had 3 children - Lorraine who became Lorraine Dalzell and Eleanore who became Eleanore Miller and a son, John Robert Madsen. The father, John Madsen, was born in Denmark and died December 1950. Anyone researching this family? When did Rose Bartels Madsen die? Are there any descendants living? I'm helping a grandson, James Madsen, in locating information regarding the family. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Edna
There was some discussion of this on the list last year, so I'm making this one-time post about our group trip to Salt Lake's Family History Library. Our annual trip has us in Salt Lake 23-30 May 2012. You can arrive however, you like, however a small group of us are riding the California Zephyr out and back as part of our self-made trip arrangements. The Zephyr departs from Chicago, however, given where I live, I am boarding the train in Galesburg, IL about two hours outside of Chicago. If you've ever wanted to go to Salt Lake, wanted to take the train, but did't want to go by yourself, this might be a good opportunity. The train does arrive late in Salt Lake, but we'd arrive as a group and get to the hotel together. The train departs EARLY in the morning, but we would all go to the station as a group. So if those arrival/departure times were a concern, you will not be by yourself. Registration information and more details about our trip are at: http://rootdig.blogspot.com/2012/01/my-group-trip-to-salt-lake-cheaper-than.html Registration is separate from lodging and travel arrangements. Those desiring to travel with us would be given specific train information so that we are all on the same train out and back. The scenery is gorgeous and we do some trip prep on the way out, discuss problems, etc. Questions about the trip can be sent to me at mjnrootdig@gmail.com Thanks! -- ------------------------------------ Michael John Neill Casefile Clues-Genealogy How-Tos http://www.casefileclues.com

Okay, I think I've figured out how to de-select. There should be no more emails regarding this. It has been brought to my attention just this morning that invitations may have been inadvertantly sent out to everyone in my address book from LinkedIn. Unfortunately, that would probably include some lists and message boards that I belong to. If that is the case and you are receiving emails from my address, they are NOT spam in the true sense of the word. I really do not know how to 'un-do' the invitations once they've been sent. You may have to click on them and 'decline' the invitation. Hopefully, that will stop them from repeatedly sending these out. I don't want to be dropped from your list! I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience if you have received one of these messages. Sincerely, Beth Walsh
