    1. [COOK-CO-IL] latin
    2. Thanks to all who took Latin or had access to some way to interpret the name. It confirmed what I thought. In high school, people would ask me what foreign language I took. My reply "English." Invariably, they would say "That's not a foreign language!" My retort "It is to me!" I probably still have some participles dangling out there somewhere out there. LOL Sent from Xfinity Mobile

    2. Okay all you latin scholars, can someone interpret Jacobus. Now before you say that's Jacob, I know that much. However, I recall a discussion about Jacob being a form of James. I have dilemma. I have been finding a few of my lost Kerr kids through the church baptismal records at Family Search. I have found an Elizabeth, supposedly married a Jacobus Birmingham and it is all in Latin. The date in the entry coincides with a marriage to a sister born a few years later. It might be the same person, but I have to investigate it further. The more I find out about my Kerr line, the more questions I have. Sent from Xfinity Mobile

Her late husband spelled the surname as above, but the rest of the family spelled it GOETZELMANN. Also, Antoinette may have used the given names Nettie or Birdie. Maiden name or previous married name was Evans. I have her husband Royal Getzelman's obit & the SSDI info on both as well as their marriage info (1920). Just need the obit if there was one. 1. Re: [COOK-CO-IL] Hotel Glassware
    2. Such souvenir glassware was not uncommon, so may not mean much. Do you recall if you had a clear, unobstructed view of the lake from the hotel? If so, it was probably the Edgewater Beach, rather than one of the downtown hotels. Another clue would be where your relatives lived. If north siders, another point in favor of the Edgewater Beach. 1. [COOK-CO-IL] Hotel Glassware
    2. When my husband and I were engaged in 1961, Chicago relatives (we lived in New Jersey and were visiting) took us out to celebrate the event at the Edgewater Beach Hotel (I think). A souvenir of the occasion is a champagne coupe (or cocktail glass) with a floral design pressed or etched onto the glass. I am hoping that someone remembers such glassware and can confirm that the dinner was in the Marine Room (or other restaurant) at the Edgewater Beach Hotel. Any information about the glassware and/or the manufacturer would be appreciated. Thanks. Daryl Hiller

    2. Joseph Martin
    3. Hi Toni, All the 1940 census will be available on April 2. The scanned census images will be provided on several web sites. BUT, you will need to know the E.D. where your families lived. Then you page through the images to that E.D. And then you need to read the entire E.D. to find your folks. A little cumbersome but doable. Ancestry and Family Search (at least) will start working on indexes with volunteers who offer to help. But it will take some months before an index for the entire U.S. will be available.
