Hi Janet Where did you find the information on your Gt. Grandfather? I remember searching a list somewhere but didn't find my Gt. Gt. Grandfather George Ba(i)rnsfather on it or his wife Mary and child Elizabeth in the early 1850's. Is there perhaps a list that has been updated on Cook County? Any information will be appreciated. None of mine were naturalized in Chicago (Cleveland and Youngstown Ohio) but I found the information in the 1888 -92 Voters books at Ancestry. And still I don't check them enough <G> Eliz On Sat, Mar 3, 2012 at 1:24 PM, Pentlands <fmckinnear@sky.com> wrote: > Hi Janet > > Where did you find the information on your Gt. Grandfather? Thanks. I have the soundex card with the certificate number. I wanted to look at the site to see if the declaration was there and what it might say. I've been trying to access the web page for the naturalization index from the county clerk but it seems to be down. Have they moved it? Is anyone else having a problem with accessing it? Jackye Sullins
This should work: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases/marriage.html Apparently they moved the site. Christine, IBSSG Sure, a real job would be nice, but it would interfere with my genealogy! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barbara Bower" <briarrose260@gmail.com> To: COOK-CO-IL@rootsweb.com Sent: Friday, March 2, 2012 8:42:22 PM Subject: [COOK-CO-IL] State Data Base I tried to lookup my grandparents marriage in the Illinois State Base (http://www.sos.state.il.us/) and got the message "domain not found". Ancestry has many of them that you can save and print. You didn't give his name so I don't know if they have his or not <G> Eliz On Wed, Feb 29, 2012 at 12:33 PM, Janet Branson <jbranson@tcaexpress.net> wrote: > I have found the index card for my gr grandfather's naturalization in Cook county. You can start here. http://www.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/NR/default.aspx Otherwise, the hardcopy records if not available for download, would be located at this same location in Chicago or at the National Archives at 77th and Pulaski, Chicago. The Cook County Clerk has a Declaration of Intent site with links to all sorts of information at the top of the website: http://www.cookcountyclerkofcourt.org/NR/default.aspx Check to see if his Declaration of Intent is listed. Note also that volunteers are still being sought to help with indexing the census. Diane
Today the National Archives, with its partner Archives.com, launched its new websitewww.1940census.archives.gov in preparation for its first-ever online U.S. census release, which will take place on April 2, 2012, at 9 a.m. (EST). The public is encouraged to bookmark the website now in order to more quickly access the 1940 census data when it goes live. No other website will host the 1940 census data on its April 2 release date. http://www.archives.gov/press/press-releases/2012/nr12-70.html Kathleen Brennan Mammoser Researching BRENNAN, BRETT,GALLAGHER & KENNEDY in CO MAYO > CHICAGO and BRENNAN in CO SLIGO > CHICAGO HOWARD in CO CORK > HARVARD , IL > CHICAGO BRICKLEY in CO CORK > HARVARD, IL > CHICAGO MAMMOSER in Schoenenbourg , FRANCE > CHICAGO http://www.mammoser.com
I've "rescued" an old photograph of Dwight ORCUTT of Arcola, Illinois which was taken at the Brown & Co. Studio in Valparaiso, Indiana. I'm guessing the photograph was taken in the 1880's or 1890's and that Dwight was in his teens or early 20's at the time it was taken. Most likely taken when he was away at college in Indiana. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding Dwight and his family: Dwight Chapman ORCUTT b. 1872 married Grace LEACH b. 1884 on 3 Dec 1907 in Chicago, IL. The couple had a son, Dwight Chapman ORCUTT Jr. b. at Evanston, IL on 4 Aug 1921, at the time of his birth the couple was living in Hubbard Woods, IL. Dwight Jr.'s birth certificate indicates Grace had 3 children/2 living. Records indicate a child died at birth in 1914. A daughter Frances ORCUTT married first Sheldon VANZWOLL and second ? ALLEN. Son Dwight Jr. married Marilyn RUPE. Dwight died in 1959 and is buried in the Lake Forest Cemetery in Lake Forest, IL. His wife Grace died in 1951, his son Dwight Jr. died in 1954, and daughter Frances ORCUTT ALLEN died in 2009. Census records provide the following information: 1880 census of Humboldt, IL: Henry ORCUTT, age 40, a Farmer, born OH, parents born MA Cordelia ORCUTT, wife, age 29, Keeping House, born NY, parents born NY Dwight C. ORCUTT, son, age 8, at Home, born IL Myrtie M.
