Hi Susan; You may want to sign up with the Illinois Kinfolk Konnection--its an MSN list. I clearly remmeber doing some look-ups for a descendant of the Cermak family on that list. Cheers, Masugu
Good Morning list, I just wanted to give a big Thank you to everyone on this list that helped me with information on my Great Great Grandparents. I still have work to do, as we all do, but your help has been great. And very appreciated. It never ceases to amaze me how much help I get from Illinois resources and the people on the Illinois lists. Thank you! Barbara Barbara Ann Phillips bphil1@earthlink.net

No credit card is needed for free access to the new immigration records. Make sure you have deleted your temp files lately so Ancestry won't immediately recognize you as a user of the last free trial. (I also delete cookies regularly, but some people don't like to do that) Second, If there is an option to "Log out" on the main ancestry page, do that also. Then refresh the main page and it should show up as an ad for the "New Immigration Records". I noticed that when they recognize you a previous 'free trial' user, then you are directed straight to the 14-day trial which requires a credit card. I am looking for relatives/descendants of Frederick & Rose Bigham who lived in Chicago and owned Unique butcher shop. Their son Fred died in California about 15 years ago leaving family pictures some of which are quite old. Beverly Taylor -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition.
I have been to Ancestory.com several times today, by way of the link that was out in an earlier e/mail and direct to ancestoey.com and have not found the "free info" The pages I have found ask for a credit card # to get started with the free trial. Do you have to give your credit card information to take advantage of the free info? The last time they had a free offer a few weeks ago for the Today Show (I think) all you had to give was your e/mail address. I would like to know how you all are getting in? Dear Listers In 1852, my gggg aunt, husband and three children sailed from Liverpool on the Western World ship and arrived in New York on 30th August 1852. On the ship's manifest it stated that their destination was Canada. However, it would appear they settled in Cook County. Their names were : Susannah Duddles b.1823 Anthony Duddles - husband - b.1822 Mary Ann Duddles - daughter - b.1844 William Duddles -son - b 1848 Edward Appleyard Duddles - son- b.1850 I wonder if some kind soul on your list could please see if they appear on the Census Returns e.g.1860,1870 and 1880. Dear List My great uncle Donald CLARK left Edinburgh in 1904. All the family knew about him was that he was in Chicago and had two Children James and Mary. Thanks to this list I was able to find that he sailed from Glasgow to New York on the SS Astoria on May 26 1904 and that his final destination was Chicago. The following year Helen ADAMS (Nellie) sailed on the SS Astoria to join him at 348N Adams Street, Chicago,Illinois. They were married in Chicago (I presume - although I have no record of the marriage) and their daughter Mary F. CLARK was born in 1908 and their son James Adams CLARK was born on May 16 1910. Donald died on October 4 1952 (I have the Chicago Tribune obit.) and Helen died on December 31 1963 (I have the obit.) Their son James Adams CLARK married Mildred BEDNARCZYK and had 3 children - Mary Jane (married name HERRMANN), Jacqueline (married name HAHN) and Claudia. James died in 1958 (I have the obit.) I believe Mary F. CLARK did not marry. I wrote to the address mentioned on her mother's death certificate 5108N Marmora Avenue, Cook County, Chicago, Illinois but did nor receive a reply. Can anyone suggest how I can obtain any further information - my aim is to make contact with any living family members. There was a free trial of Ancestry at the beginning of this month and I found an obituary for Mary Francis CLARK.September 27 1992. I wonder if anyone has the full transcript of this obituary? I suspect it might not be the right person as I wondered if the F in her name would be FRASER - the maiden name of her maternal grandmother. If anyone could help me in any way I would be very grateful. Thank you Margaret Daniels Northumberland England

If any of you are looking for immigration info., ship manifests, etc. check out Ancestry's new information. It's free for the rest of the month, so even those of us that don't have a subscription, can explore in the comfort of our own homes. Jim McCarthy at mccartjh@gmail.com asked for the Roman Catholic Church that was located at 895 Palmer Avenue in 1900. Jim, I think you are looking for St. Sylvester Church, 2157 North Humboldt Blvd., Chicago, Illinois 60647 (773) 235-3646. The church's website is: stsylvester.archchicago.org . You can also find information on St. Sylvester at the Archdiocese of Chicago's website: http://www.archchicago.org/index.shtm Click on Parishes at the top of the page. When the next window opens, type St. Sylvester in the "By Name" box and click "GO". Thomas Mackowiak MACKOWIAK/SERWATKIEWICZ/WANATOWICZ/JANUSZEWSKI/LESCZYNSKI/ORLIKOWSKI/MROZ/MU NO/HARNEY
I'm trying to find the name of the church where my g-grandparents were married. The church (Catholic) was located at 94 Palmer Avenue in 1899 according to their marriage license. They were married by Michael O'Brien. According to the 1900 U. S. Federal census, Michael O'Brien (occupation - priest) resided at 895 Palmer Avenue. The 1900 census shows the district that Michael O'Brien lived at as 'City of Chicago, Fifteenth Ward; 37th Precinct, Bounded by Palmer Ave., Mozart, Armitage Ave., Kedzie Ave.' Does anyone know the name of this church? Thanks, Jim

Hi Barbara, I believe I have found your Nancy. Died on 4/18/1918. This from the IL. death list for 1916 to 1950. Could be a victim of the 1918 flu epidemic??? Nothing for Henry anywhere I can search. Seeing this cartoon every year as a child made me appreciate time, place, nature and culture. It still evokes apple cider and raking leaves and the house my parents sold nearly 40 years ago in the Chicago suburbs. Best wishes, Linda in Boston
I just think a lot of people spend too much time looking for things to be offended by. If we all spent more time trying to accomplish things, and stop the serious problems, no one would have the time to be offended. Boy could I have fun. I'm German, Irish, Welsh, English, Cherokee, possibly Jewish, and if I look at where my ancestors came from, wow. Germany (as mixed as America), Ireland (the Vikings raped and pillaged there, thus the name (variations) Doyle-black Irish, because of the terrible things they did (my maiden name), England-Ireland-Wales were all raped and pillaged by the Moor's (not sure on spelling)(a very dark race). I say "down with political correctness", lets all like who we are. It is really sad things like has been mentioned has to be stopped, because some persons don't have enough to keep themselves busy. Lets not let them do these things to us. End of subject for me. God Bless our Freedom. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Mueller" <tommcclib@yahoo.com> To: <cook-co-il@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 12, 2006 4:35 PM Subject: [COOK-CO-IL] off topic - there's also the FSU Seminoles > Add to the fray of team names that offend some, there > are also the FSU Seminoles. > "Chief Osceola" (I may have the team's mascot's name > wrong). > I'm not sure, but he might not be be part of the > pre-game festivities anymore. > > Tom Mueller > > > > ____________________________________________________________________________________ > Cheap talk? > Check out Yahoo!
