    3. Hi Lillian, haven't heard from you in awhile. I always like your posts, and the fact that you know Chicago! We always burned everything--and still are allowed to burn in a contained vessel. It's just easier to recycle. We have a disposal, my husband is an avid recycler, he mulches the neighbors leaves [we don't have any trees] and we only have a can of "garbage" about once a month. I still love the smell of burning leaves when I am lucky enough to get a whiff. Grace

    3. Just thought I should raise the fact that the DUDDLES name appears in our area in Lake County, Illinois. Evidently the Smith Family who owned the land upon which Ivanhoe Country Club now stands were somehow Peripherally connected with the DUDDLES name. In fact, when building the golf course they came upon a Marker with DUDDLES name on it. Construction ground to a halt until it was determined that this was The grave of a dearly-loved hunting dog that had been buried on their property. The DUDDLES name also appears on grave markers in the Ivanhoe (village) graveyard adjacent to the Ivanhoe Church (don't recall the protestant denomination). Just thought you might want this information about another locale in which the DUDDLES name occurs. 2. When my husband was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri in 1961 we lived up in the hills in Waynesville, MO. We had a large drum out by the road where we had to burn the garbage. They would come for the bottles and cans once a week but this was the first time I had to recycle. I really enjoyed doing that. 2. Members of Clan Doyle /Clann O DubhGhaill ("Dubh-Ghaill" ... pronounced "Du-Gall") take their family surname from the Irish Gaelic words meaning "Dark/Evil Foreigner"; and this is just what the indigenous Celts called the Danish Vikings who started settling in Ireland and Scotland more than 1,000 years ago. The Irish Annalists, referring to the incident, describe the unwelcome arrivals as "dubh-ghaill". http://www.doyle.com.au/meaning.htm Interesting reading. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Cardi2@aol.com> To: <cook-co-il@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, November 14, 2006 11:23 PM Subject: [COOK-CO-IL] YES, PEOPLE DO SPEND TIME BEING OFFENDED As for your comment about the Vikings and the Irish - for your information the Vikings never made the west coast of Britain they plundered the east coast. 2. Really now. Point proven. Please pay attention to what you read. Who raped and pillaged is unimportant. The fact that too many waste time finding things to be offended by is the point. 3. Another success thanks to the free trial of the Immigration lists on Ancestry! It was fantastic to find out that my great aunt had migrated to Chicago! Great to be on the way to solving the mystery of her disappearance! Her name was Jessie Hudleston and she had been a performer on the London stage between 1893 and 1901. In 1896 she married Ebenezer Frederick Alexander in London. She toured South Africa with the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in 1902-1903, after which she disappeared from the London stage. I found Ebenezer's entry into New York on SS "Baltic" on 19 May 1905, giving his destination as Chicago; his wife Jessie was not listed with him. but Jessie's brother, Robert Hudelston and his wife Clara (who was a sister of Ebenezer) and children Doris and Alexander Hudleston were. Ebenezer's brother, Herbert G B Alexander, had apparently become an American citizen in 1892 and was a resident of Chigao. Does anyone know whether Jessie performed in the theatre in America? Can anyone help with the Alexander and Hudleston families in Chicago? Des Alford NSW AUSTRALIA
