Offices: Chicago, IL c1939 That was the only mention I found, it is a railway car company as one would expect (cars were autos then and car meant railroad *G*) you might get lucky if you keep googling and checking the results. 3. My husband's great uncle lived in Evanston, Cook County between about 1910 and when he died in 1970. His occupation was a driver for a dairy, yet he came back and forward to Scotland several times in 1920s and 30s and sent big sums of money home to his father. I wonder if he too was involved in the Al Capone scene Kay

    2. Annie: Many in this group have access to the Chicago Tribune Archives online. Perhaps if you gave us his name, we might be able to find articles related to your ancestor. Kathleen Craine Chicago I have someone who was born in 1890 in Chicago to a German-immigrant family. His father was a druggist, a salesman, etc. I don't think they were wealthly. However, he became a newspaper editor/writer and apparently had money, lots of it. He was supposedly involved with the Al Capone era, involved with gangsters but never a gangster himself. I find him on the 1930 census, married to his second wife and has a child. Somewhere around 1932 he moves to Miami Beach, FL where he dies in 1962. I have his death certificate which has very little information on it - except to say that he was born in Chicago and was a newspaper editor/writer. It's possible that he moved to Miami Beach to be involved in gangster-related activities. When did the Al Capone era end in Chicago? Would there have been any gangster-related reason for his leaving Chicago for Florida? I'm trying to reconstruct this man's life. It's interesting. He wasn't a nice man to his children. 1. [COOK-CO-IL] MIX Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the MIX Family. The first is a photograph of Lizzie MIX which was taken at the John Hammond Studio in Chicago, Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's with Lizzie appearing to be in her 20's at the time it was taken. The second photograph is one of Ana MIX, taken at the August Schneider Studio in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. This photograph also appears to have been taken in the 1870's with Ana likely in her teens or 20's at the time. Based on limited research I was able to locate what may be this same family in the 1880 census of Milwaukee, WI: Frank MIX, age 64, born in Bohemia, a Laborer, parents born Bohemia Katy MIX, wife, age 57, born in Bohemia, Keeps House, parents born Bohemia Anna MIX, dau, age 22, born in Bohemia, Sewing at Home Kattie MIX, dau, age 20, born in Bohemia, Sewing at Home Rosa MIX, dau, age 18, born in Bohemia, Sewing at Home Joseph MIX, son, age 16, born WI, at Home Dorah MIX, dau, age 13, born WI, at School Lilly MIX, dau, age 1, born WI Lizzie PERCILA, other, age 24, born WI, parents born France/Bohemia I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that these wonderful old photographs can be returned to their rightful place with family. If you are a member of this family, or know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

    1. [COOK-CO-IL] COOK CO IL: re: 1920s & 1930s in Chicago
    2. Hello Annie, What is his name? Have you looked for an obituary in Miami, FL? There might also be some newspaper articles on him between 1930 and when he died in 1962 in Miami. If he was ever in prison, there might be a paper trail there also. Also, if he was an editor for a newspaper, I'd start looking there first. I can only imagine that there would be a pretty substantial obituary for him there.
