Hi Linda, I will try to help you find these two death notices if there was any. I will check the Tribune microfilm at my library next week. If they are not in there, I will order the Sun Times from the State library in Springfield. Is there somebody who could contact me off list and do a lookup for a obit from 1937? I have never been able to get into the Tribune Obit site, so hopefully somebody with a subscription can help. These are very recent obits so you can access them yourself and don't need a look up. They are available by going to the Chicago Tribune newspaper website and following the Obituaries link. The dates available are current back to 1985 or so. Hello everyone, I have browsed and searched the Cook Co. lists archives for years and have just subscribed to the digest format. I have a couple research projects set aside for this winter that I hope some of you might be able to help with. My family has old history in Chicago, mid 1800's to about 1909. They (my grandparents) moved west to Melrose Park where the family lived till the 1970's. All are gone now or scattered in the suburbs and out of state. I moved to the Ozark Mountains of SW Missouri 25 years ago and have taken over the "family historian" job, the third in my direct line from the 1880's. I'm not sure if I can contribute much to the list from 500 miles away but I will bring up some interesting history subjects that I would like to learn more about. My genealogy research had made a turn from the names and dates to the history behind it all. A very interesting and enjoyable change from documenting family names of the last few hundred years. Regards Al Askevold
there is also St Michael the Archangel at 4821 S. Damen Ave, Chicago 60609 773-523-1248. The church originated in 1898 originally at 4920 S. Paulina St. I had them take a look for some records last year but they just do a surface check of names and the women told me that she neither speaks nor reads either latin nor Slovak. The church, I understand, is now primarily Latino. Paul researching: Macekonis, Stankevicius, Kossuth/Kosuit/Kosuth, Sarna, Marcinek
>From the names you are searching I would say you may want to seek out Irish churches. For example St John of God I believe was a Polish Church, St Augustine near 51st and Wood (I think) was a German church. People were clannish then and tried ti stick together. -----Original Message----- From: cook-co-il-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:cook-co-il-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of KayB Sent: Monday, January 01, 2007 5:45 PM To: alley77532@peoplepc.com; cook-co-il@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [COOK-CO-IL] looking for the right Catholic Church The original Union Stockyards were bounded by 39th St. (Pershing), Halsted St., 47th St. and Ashland Ave. The church you are probably looking for is St. Gabriel (St. Gabes) at 45th and Lowe or Wallace depending on whether you want the church or the rectory. I have an ancestor who received a Civil War pension. After he passed away, his wife applied for a widows pension and received it. Hers is a different number from his. Susan

researchers, I plan to use the Roman Catholic Churches 1850-1990 resource fiche #6111007 I think this is the resource I used before it is excellant once I know where the stockyard area is I can look for the churches in about 1910 and I'll have a better idea of the churches in their area take care, Debbie
ok, HAPPY NEW YEAR today, I got some new info from my cousin Theresa WEIN & Lester BASSETT married at a Catholic Church 21 April 1906 in Chicago they lived near the stockyards now I need to figure out where the stockyards would be today and where the nearest Catholic Churches were if anyone give me an idea the stockyard area please e-mail me I need an address or something I can look up on a map thanks & take care, Debbie
My greatgrandfather died and his widow was then eligible for his pension. I got his records from NARA, and found a wealth of information. I was never able to determine when they had married, but because the widow had to submit affidavits and proof of the marriage I finally got their marriage date. It was around $34 to get the file, but to me it was well worth it. I dont know if the pension would go beyond the widow, unless there were minor children.
