    3. The Trib also published a little booklet each year with the best of the "Line". My parents always bought a copy. I got a poem from there, memorized it, and recited it for a special program we had at school. I received a crude home made blue ribbon which I still have in my memory box. The Tribune has always been part of my life. I keep saying we don't need it any more, but I just can't give it up. I credit that paper with my love for reading. Grace

    3. Thanks Dave, and others that have wrote off list. I have been waiting for someone to confirm that the Line O' Type or Two article was a running article. I will now contact the Tribune staff with a query. I think I have found this map! Or I should say the good people of the Newberry Library did. Yesterday I called the Newberry Library, a very enjoyable phone call and a return call about another map of 1878 by my great. A copy of this map is on it's way and today a source for the Chicago map might have been found along with other maps I did not know about. I have to tip my hat for the staff at Newberry. One phone call solved years of searching. Al David Buzzek wrote: > "A Line o' Type Or Two" was a long running column in > the Trib. Have you checked with the Tribune? > Dave

    3. Hi; If you don't mind shelling out $35.00 a year, you can subscribe to the Godfrey Library in CT (Hint; I get mine as a Xmas present). They provide several ways to access the Trib archives, obits and headlines, past and present. Cheers, Masugu

    1. Re: [COOK-CO-IL] Look Up PLEASE
    2. Hi Steve, Seems to me that only the 1900 Census reports that Oliver was born in Kentucky, and the rest [1910, 1920 & 1930] all state he was born in IL. The possible error might be that his mother was born in Sweden, and she maybe did not have good command of English. Birth certificates were not required in Illinois in 1900, and you might have better luck with church records [look for churches around where they lived in 1900, for which ever church they may have attended - Lutheran, Catholic, etc]. Your friend might also send for Oliver's application for his Social Security number. That might be the easiest and best proof available. Hope this helps, Sharon Buethner On 10 Jan 2007 at 20:58, STEVE TAMMY HARDY wrote: I'm helping a friend, her grandfather Oliver Pepper was born 24 Mar 1900 possibly in Chicago Illinois. The reason we don't look in Kentucky is we don't have a county in Kentucky, just Kentucky. 3. Masugu - Your email bounced and I wanted to acknowledge your help. Terrific info. There are a few on the list (Dupuis/Clibborn) that establish that they were still in Chicago in 1937 and that helps me figure out when/if they moved to other places. Also, there's some 'cousins' to check out- names that keep popping up, but I'm not sure of a connection. Thank you very much for looking it up for me. Susan
