    3. Dorothy Are you not referring to Waters School across from Luther Memorial Church? Welles was the name of the park at Sunnyside and Western. I grew up in this neighborhood and went to Queen of Angels School at Sunnyside & Western, across from the park. Wilson goes all the way west, but in the west end of the Albany Park neighborhood it stops and starts and curves for awhile. You have to know the neighborhood to follow it, or you will get lost. 3. Thomas Thank you for your response. I guess we were pretty much isolated in our little gettos at that time. I remember Milwaukee Ave. but not LeClaire. I just can't imagine very much west of Wells Public School, that I attended between 1930 and 1934, It was located, on Wilson Ave, about half a mile west of Western Across the street was a Luthern Church. A little further down Wilson a Greek Church. At that time Wilson Ave. must have extended much further west than I was aware of. We traveled mostly by streetcar. The Wilson Ave. bus was at least a mile east of us. I still remember the milk truck and the ice truck and the horse's hoofs on the bricks of Wilson and Oakley Aves. We lived on the corner. Thanks again. Any information about that area brings back loving memories. If there is anything that I can share with listers - I would be happy to do so. dorothy .

    3. I believe this to be correct, that the Town of Lake was a Southside neighborhood, possibly south of the yards. Crocken (possibly Crocker) is not listed on the street name change, possibly because of a street name change at the time the Town of Lake was annexed to the City. Additional information: the midwife's address is shown as 381 (or 391) Clybourn. Tom Mueller --- Pattimeyers67@aol.com wrote: > That web address doesn't include all the street > changes. 1. [COOK-CO-IL] Sarah L. ALford-Oglesby-Leeds-Johnson
    2. Amy Tillman
    3. Hello all. I need your help. My great-grandmother, Sarah L. Alford, was born October 7, 1867 in Indiana. She married James F. Oglesby in 1884 (his second marriage), and they had four children - - Sarah L. (b. 3/5/1885), James Francis (b. 2/20/1887 - my grandfather), Isabelle (b. 3/17/1890) and Roger Earl (b. 3/19/1893). James became very ill, and Sarah left him, placing three of the children (Sarah, James and Roger) in the Franklin County Children's Home on May 15, 1894. For some reason she kept Isabelle with her. Her husband, James, died on November 14, 1894. Children Sarah and James were placed in foster homes as servants. It appears that Roger was adopted by another family. Sarah appears in the 1900 census in Orleans Township, Orange Cty, IN, with the Jonce Monyhan family. James appears in the 1900 census in Union Township, Jasper Cty, IN with the Charles Vanarsdel family. Mother Sarah married George E. Leeds on December 27, 1896, and they moved to Chicago, taking Isabelle with them. They appear in the 1900 census, living in Chicago at 207 Grenshaw. For some reason Sarah's name appears as "Loudes". But it's them. In late 1900, children Sarah and George ran away from their foster homes and went to live with their mother and George in Chicago. City directories show George Leeds living at 2006 Fillmore in 1903; 620 South Homan Avenue in 1904-1905; 945 West Van Buren Street in 1907. Then he and Sarah disappear. Daughter Sarah died March 22, 1907 of pulmonary tuberculosis and is buried in Oakridge Cemetery in Chicago. Son James married Mary Ann McGrath, and appears in the 1910 census, residing with her family in Chicago. Isabelle married Charles Lawrence, and appears in the 1910 census, residing in Seattle, Washington. But George Leeds and mother Sarah elude me. Son James died on March 7, 1926 in Omaha, NE. His obituary states that he was survived by his sister, Mrs. C. A. Lawrence in Delware, and his mother, Mrs. C. A. Johnson of Chicago, IL. Looks like husband #3 for Sarah. So - - what happened to George Leeds? Did they divorce? Did he die? I can't find anything on him after 1907. By the way, he was born September 1865 in Indiana. When did Sarah marry Mr. C. A. Johnson? I simply have been unable to find the Johnsons at all. And when did Sarah die? Any ideas to help me get past this brick wall? Amy Tillman

    3. Hi Robin, Karen told you that Ferdinand Haus worked for the Pullman Company according to his WWI Draft Registration. You might want to contact the South Suburban Genealogical & Historical Society in Hazel Crest, Illinois. The SSGHS has the employee records for the Pullman Company Car Works in Chicago. The records that SSGHS has are ONLY for the Chicago plant. You can check out the information at the SSGHS website at this URL: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ssghs/pullman.htm#Pullman%20Collection Follow the directions to obtain a free lookup to let you know what information there might be in the Pullman Employee Records Collection at SSGHS. Peter Frohlich, age 34, arr May 22, 1902 from Bremen on "The Cassel", married, Galicy, German, last res Mowy, Sacz, going to ? 201 Union Street Chicago. On the ship "Finland" arr May 19, 1903 from Antwerp, are 3 people of interest who mention going to Peter Frohlich's at 192 Union Street in Chicago. line 4 is Ferdinand Haus, 23 yr 8 mo, single, going to cousin Peter Frohlich, 192 Union, Chicago Did you see lines 9 & 10? line 9 Karolina Reichert 25 yr 6 mo Galacian, German last res Zurliovice to Chicago line 10 Katarina Reichert, her sister, 23 yr, 2 mo Galacian, German going to brother-in-law Peter Frohlich, 192 Union Street, Chicago Marjaretha Schmidt, sgl, arr June 2, 1905 on "Barbarossa", from Bremen last res Zoikowice, occ maid/servant, age 27, going to ?? it looks like maybe "2 brothers in law", cousins Peter Frohlich and Ferdinand Haus & her sister, at 52 Gardiner Street Chicago. Go back to Ellis Island and see what you think. I'll let you know if I find any more. When Marjaretha married, who was her spouse? That may help. Karen in Oklahoma

    3. Was Schmidt Margartha's maiden name or married name? If maiden, what was her husband's name? 3. I've been searching for my husband's grandmother's passenger list record and I have found a very good candidate. Her name was Margaretha Schmidt (listed at ellisisland.org as Marjaretha Schmidt). She lived in Galicia and arrived in New York, bound for Chicago, in 1905. It says she was going to join Peter Frohlich and Ferdinand Haus, something about an unnamed sister, at 52 Gardiner Street, Chicago. That's best as I can read. I don't know these two names but I found their passenger records. Ferdinand lived in Galicia and came to New York bound for Chicago in 1903, to join with cousin Peter Frohlich at 192 Union Street, Chicago. Peter Frohlich lived in Galicia and came to New York bound for Chicago in 1902, to join a name I can't read with no relationship that I can tell at 201 Union Street, Chicago. My thought is that perhaps Ferdinand Haus was Margaret's brother-in-law and if so, I'm probably on a wild goose chase trying to track down Peter Frohlich as he wouldn't be part of our family. I'm very interested in learning about Margaret's family as we know nothing. It's hard for me to imagine she would have come to this country without any other family here. I have access to Heritage Quest, but haven't sprung for an Ancestry subscription yet. Couldn't readily find either of these men in Chicago in 1910. People born in Galicia are usually listed as being born in Austria which is what it was prior to WWI. Anyone recognize these names or have any suggestions for me for finding Ferdinand Haus in 1910 Chicago? Thanks Robin in Short Pump -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
