    1. Re: [COOK-CO-IL] Recos for donating a cemetery plot
    2. Kathy Rust
    3. I'm not sure how laws differ from state to state, but, here in Arizona I spent an entire day making calls and trying to chase down a way to donate a cemetery plot. Any charitable groups were not interested because the cost of opening the grave and other additional costs, such as the liner, would still be too much for any charity case to afford. The only option left to us was to deed the plot back to the cemetery and let them sell it again.

    1. [COOK-CO-IL] Recos for donating a cemetery plot
    2. Hi, You are all so helpful, I hope you can assist me. I have the original deed from 1925 to a family cemetery plot in Hillside, Illinois. No one in our family will ever use it, so I'd like to donate it. When I called the cemetery, they told me I would have to go through an involved legal process to donate it. If it is as difficult as they say, that plot will remain empty forever. Does anyone have any suggestions/comments/ knowledge about donating this plot to someone who could use it? thanks a bunch, Anne

    3. Hi Paul; I didn't find anything that pointed to a kinship between Elizabeth and Joseph. Elizabeth's parents were John (who was gone by 1920), and Mary who from at least 1920-1937, lived at 4614 Winchester Ave, near the stockyards. As of 1930, Edwin was living there also. In 1937, Jacob Kossuth--Elizabeth's brother Jack/Jock--owned a tavern next door, at 4612 Winchester Ave. At the very least they likely knew Joseph as they were all affiliated with St. Michaels. Hopefully, the following data will help you in your search. 3. Hi all, Awhile back I posted a query about the 1940 Tribune article on the 1878 Chicago street map my gr grandfather lithographed in 1878. I have yet to look into Line Reference Library noted in the article, my search has moved to quickly for me to keep up. I "might" have found this map? With a very enjoyable contact with the Newberry Library I have several sources of maps printed in Chicago by Anders Askevold. Newberry sent one digital copy of another map and the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library just sent digital copies of two others, 1874 Illinois and 1875 Chicago. The 1874 Illinois map was published by The Chicago Map Establishment, Askevold and Roy proprietors. I know of this partnership from the Chicago directory page of 1874. Peter Roy is noted for maps of the 1880-1890's. The 1875 Chicago map has the same business name with A. Askevold proprietor and the same business address used in the directory pages for my gr grandfather till 1878. I still have four maps to find from two sources, the Chicago Historical society and the Wisconsin Historical Society in Madison. I am sure these maps will have "The Chicago Map Establishment" noted. This business is a clue for me to understand why Anders moved the family back to Norway about 1880. How would I find information on this Chicago business? Dates might only run from 1874-1878, 1872-1880 might be more in the time frame. Would records of this business of Ashland Blk. at Clark and Randolph be kept somewhere? Al Askevold Forsyth, MO.

While his death has not been unlooked for, the news was received with regret by all of his many friends. The deceased was an excellent citizen and reared an excellent family. He was a good neighbor, friend and Christian. Men like him are missed and mourned in any community. Joseph Einhorn was born in Germany over 80 years ago. He was married to Mary Weishart there and 39 years ago came to this country and settled in Cook County, IL and 27 years ago came to Island Grove to live. 3. I am writing to request direction for research. 1. How do I definitively tie family members together, naming the six children? 2. How can I find where Peter and Margaret are buried? 3. How can I find where the farm land was? A published biography of my gr-gr grandfather Michael Einhorn (1828-1915), cabinet maker and later farmer, says that he immigrated in 1844 from Selz, Prussia. Many important details come out in the small section referring to his parents, Peter and Margaret: "Locating in Cook County, Illinois, he purchased land and turned his attention to farming, which he carried on up to the time of his death. He passed away in March 1851, and left a widow and six children to mourn his loss. He was the owner of one hundred and sixty acres of land, and upon his farm his wife remained for two years, when she, too passed away in March 1853. The parents therefore did not long enjoy their now home. Upon the mother's death the heirs sold the property, receiving about $8 per acre." The only clues I have found are: 1. An Einhorn family group migrated in 1844: cabinet makers Antoine (27) and Joseph (17), spinster Barbara Einhorn (25), children Barbara (4) and Marie (5). There is no clear indication how the individuals are related. 2. Family headed by Anton Einhorn (44) living in Bloom, Il in 1850 census. 3. Family headed by Michael Einhorn living in Rich, Il in 1850 along with sisters Barbara and Magdalin born in France/Germany. 4. Family headed by Joseph Einhorn living in Rich, IL in 1870 census along with sisters Eva (48) and Mary (32), all born in France/Germany. 5. There are 7 Einhorns buried in St. Anne's cemetery in Richton, IL. 6. Church records at St. Peter's in Chicago show Michael was godfather for Joseph Einhorn's children and visa versa. 7. 1855 Chicago Directory shows Joseph to be a carver. By 1875 he became a saloon keeper. (1875 Chicago Directory, 1880 census) 8. Antone Einhorn purchased in April 1847 and Joseph Einhorn in June 1848. both in Rich township. 9. Many of the first names repeat, implying family relations. What I can't find: 1. Michael or his parent's immigration. (have looked ancestry.com) 2. Record of sale or purchase of the referenced farm land in Cook County. (have checked IRAD, Cyberdrive, Cook County records office, BLM). 3. Probated will (have checked Cook County records). 4. Peter & Margaret's death records or graves. (Have checked IRAD, Cyberdrive, Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Chicago) 5. Any record of Peter & Margaret's presence. Have checked 1850 census on ancestry.com) I would appreciate any direction for stones I have not yet uncovered. Katie Brown
