Chicago Irish Families, 1875-1925 by Tom Cook is on ancestry.com. I didn't find any hits in it for Eliza Murphey. Kathleen
What happened to Tom Cook's manuscript/database "Chicago's Irish Families 1830-1900"? Unable to find it on "The Irish at Home and Abroad" either. Update on how to contact Tom Cook to add to his files or request info? Need help on Eliza MURPHY & sibs 1850 - 1920 in Chicago. Wayne et al, I might have to unsub from the list for a short time, a family medical emergency. I will be back soon I hope, I like the list and the talk I see. Thanks for the Sandstrom obit! I think Viggo will find this one interesting. I forwarded the obit on Louis S. Brown that Marianne sent to Viggo and sent Viggo's reply off list. I will add it here and recap the research when I hear more. Regards Al from Viggo-- I wonder if the OVERSAT name has it's origin at the ØVRESET farm in Breim local parish, Gloppen (Nordfjord), S&F. In the Gloppen Bygdebok Vol.5 I find there were several who emigrated from there, and I'll see (out of curiousity) if there is a connection. I'm about to photograph the Gloppen BB Series (6 volumes). Well, I could not resist. I checked and YES, the name came from Gloppen, Nordfjord. Jakob Jensson ØVRESET b1857 emigrated in 1877, was married and he ran a funeral home in Chicago. Which fits : in 1920 Jacob OVRESAT's occupation is as embalmer, his wife is Maria b ca1868 and they have children Theodora, Raymond, Magdalene (Mrs. Lars JOHANSEN) and Jennie (Mrs. Walter SCHATY) living with them at that time. It's not in the Chicago Tribune online from Newsbank, America's Obituaries (1985-current), available as a database to Godfrey Memorial Library subscribers. It is probably on microfilm, and may be able to be obtained on interlibrary loan at your local library from the Abraham Presidential Library in Springfield, Illinois as long as your library has microfilm readers. Another way to obtain a copy is to contact Molly Kennedy, a look-up person on this site who lives in Springfield and does look-ups there and at the Illinois State Archives. Record Number: 19820222dn102 LOW-KEY SATELLITE DISH CONFORMS TO VILLAGE ETIQUETTE Chicago Tribune December 7, 1992 Author: Jim Jacobs. John Mastre`s neighbors in the Tallgrass subdivision are probably wondering if he is planning a barbecue party for Christmas. Mastre hasn`t brought in his patio umbrella and table for the winter, but that`s because his back yard furniture gives new meaning to the term ``functional.`` What appears to be a 7 1/2-foot umbrella on Mastre`s patio is really a television satellite dish. The disguise helped Mastre get approval from Bartlett, which prohibits satellite dishes larger than 6 feet in diameter without a special-use permit. Mastre installed his dish before he knew about the requirement, but village officials were enthusiastic when they saw photos of the equipment. The Village Board granted after-the-fact approval for the permit last week. ``From a distance, you`d never be able to tell it`s a satellite dish,``Mastre said. A California company markets the umbrella treatment as ``perfect for areas with zoning restrictions.`` The setup is ideal for Mastre, a sports fan who uses the dish to pull in network feeds of football, basketball, hockey and other sporting events. Joe Herreweyers, vice president of E&E Systems, the Wauconda firm that installed Mastre`s dish, said either expensive landscaping or the new dish is becoming necessary in a number of towns. Additional cost for the umbrella and accompanying patio table is about $1,000, he said. According to Herreweyers, proof that the disguise works occurred in a suburb, which he would not identify, where a customer balked at what he considered an unreasonable amount of municipal red tape-submitting plats of survey and attending several board meetings-and had one installed withoutpermission. ``It`s been up for six months, and nobody knows,`` Herreweyers said. Is there anyone out there that is close to the Naperville FHC or other place that has later Marriage index files? I am looking for the marriage of Della Averitte Hendrickson marrying Nathan Kaplin after 1922 and she married again before 1930 to Carl Olson. She actually married 4 times and I am missing this two. Carl and Della Olson are in the 1930 census near Wrigley Field. I am not sure how far the indexes go, but I know some go into the 1920's Thanks Laurie

Hi, I received a copy of the death certificate for Gladys McDowell who died on bronchio pneumonia. It lists her husband's name as William but his age is marked "unknown". They are living at 6716 Merritt Ave. it gives her parents names as Samuel Zimmerman b. in Hungary and her mother as Eva Kresch, unknown. Gladys was born in Brooklyn NY on June 6, 1995. She's buried at Oakwoods Cemetery. I've contacted the cemetery when I discovered that her mother-in-law and husband were later buried there. These two were cremated and their ashes are in a storage room. I don't know about Gladys. She and William had one son, Neil, born in IL in 1916. He's listed in the 1930 census living with the family but I can't find him in any other document--SSDI, war dead, etc. There is a Neil McDowell who enlisted in the Army from Chicago. Any suggestions on where to search next? Maybe Gladys and William were married in Brooklyn and then went to IL. Any advice/assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks.
