I have also been dealing with this office for almost 3 years now and I'm only requesting one file! I have written at least a dozen letters and in one letter included a check that was returned to me because "they would bill when the file was sent". I figured that if I sent payment it would move things along faster. The last letter I sent was back in November, 06...........again including a check..........the check was never sent back to me, but never cashed. I've not had any communication from that office at all. Miki Mangan Fairfield, CT

**************************************
AOL now offers free email to everyone. Looking for some advise. One year ago this month I called the Cook Co. Coroner's office to obtain inquest records for family members. I was instructed to send a letter with pertinent info along with death certificates. I initially sent for info for five records. After a couple of months and a number of phone calls later I was requested to send info in on six other records that I was searching for as well, as the person that searches these records would be able to obtain all at one time. Now I am waiting for eleven records total. I have made numerous phone calls to the specific person that searches these records in the "warehouse," her supervisor in medical records department, and a supervisor with the Cook Co Coroners office (names withheld). I have faxed and refaxed this info several times to each person and have made between 2-4 calls every month. I have received almost every excuse imaginable as well as numerous promises to provided me the inquest records requested. I have remained cordial thru out this ordeal. Needless to say, now one year later, I am no closer to receiving these records than when I initially requested them. It seems that pursuing this present course is fruitless. I live in another state now and cannot just drop in to try to handle this in person, but having faxed all the info and following up with phone calls has accomplished nothing to this point. I am asking advise as to what better course of action I might take at this point to finally receive the requested inquest record information? Any suggestions or strategies will be most welcome as I am completely frustrated. I am a Federal Government employee myself and understand the "wheels of government grind slowly," but this is ridiculous! Thank you very much, Sincerely, William A. Does anyone on the list know of a public pool in Washington Heights? I have an old picture circa 1900's (very poor condition) that shows a one story building with a chain link fence around it. It is on a dirt road or maybe it is the back of the building but the street looks like dirt. Two little girls are standing by the door but are too far away to be recognized. Behind the building is a long lumber yard building. Lettering on the roof shows "S______ Lumber and Supply". The first word is blocked by another building. The only thing written on it is "Swimming Pool Wash. Hghts." I know my grandparents lived in that area in the early 1900's. Thanks for any help. Marge in MI
Could anyone tell me where the "Otto Alt Undertaker" business could be located? I have an old snapshot probably early 1900's. It is of the undertaker's building; a 3 story brick building with what looks like possible apartments upstairs. The house number is 2838 but no street name is shown. On the side of the building is painted "OTTO ALT UNDERTAKER CHAPEL CARRIAGES". Below that is "Seidenberg & Co's. Cubanola hand made cigars, 5 cents Reid, Murdoch & Co. Distributors" There is an empty lot next to the building with a for sale sign from "Edmund S. Graf". The building may be on a corner because there is no building on the other side either. The street is brick with a street car rail running down it. I know this sounds like every street in the Chicago area but that's all I have to go on. It could be in the South Chicago, Morgan Park or Washington Heights areas. Thanks, Marge in MI
I have 3 pictures of what looks like a 'parade' of gentlemen dressed in uniforms & hats with big white furry plumes (my best description sorry). They are carrying swords or sabers too. One group is carring an American flag but I can't count the stars. They also have another flag but is not recognizable. The only thing written on the back is "Chicago K. T." on one and "Muskegon K. T." on the other. I believe it is from the Chicago area since it was with other pictures I have inherited from my Chicago family side. The cars in the picture look like 1920's cars or earlier. The street is brick and there is a candy store on the street and a sign "Battery Service Exide". My grandparents lived in Washington Heights and Morgan Park areas in the 1900's so it could be from that area. Does anyone have any ideas what this group might be? There are only 3-4 people watching the group, some from their cars. It seems odd to have so many men marching and no one watching. Marge in MI

Would someone know how I would find a marriage and a death in Chicago or the area near to it? I am looking for the marriage of Wilbur WEAVER and I believe he moved to Chicago in the 1920's where he later married. I wasn't able to find him in the 1930 census index in Chicago or in Pennsylvania where he had lived before moving to Chicago. I don't know his wife's name. They had 2 children in Chicago and I don't know their names. Wilbur was born Jan.1904 in PA. I know that he was still living as of May 1961. I didn't find his name in the Social Security index. I would be interested in any help on finding marriages or if a marriage index is available in the 1920's-1930's. Also, I am interested in help in finding a death after May of 1961. Thank you. Hi list, I am hoping someone can help....Ive found what I think is a relative on a 1895 Wisconsin State census. My problem is the blurred headings are completely illegible. Ive blown it up to fill the entire legal size pg and its just as fuzzy. (even ran it through photoshop) I cannot find a site that has a blank for this year. One said "coming soon". Maybe someone out there has located one &/or knows what the headings are.... or know of a site that has the blank form? The 1890 and 1900 U.S. census are a completely different format. Jerri in CA
Thanks to all who checked on the names for me and sent me the obits I requested. Special thanks to Carole, Lila, Mary, and Robin. The response from this list is GREAT!

Could SKS who has access to the 1911 or 1912 Chicago city directories lookup my g-g-grandfather Michael Bruce Anderson? I am trying to find him and his wife, Elise, on the 1910 US Federal census and can't locate them. I found him on the 1909 and 1910 Chicago city directory but when I look for those addresses in the 1910 census, someone else is listed. He could be listed as either M. Bruce Anderson or Bruce M. Anderson. In 1910 he was living at 5493 Greenwood Ave. and owned a dry cleaning shop at 1151 E. 55th St. Thank you, Jim

I¹ve enjoyed the postings to this website. I am trying to document the divorce of John Edward Pepper from Josephine Pepper. They were residents of Blue Island, Illinois, in 1900. They appear there again on the 1910 census. In 1920 Josephine shows as the head of household, married, but John Edward is not listed with the rest of the familiy. In 1930, Josephine shows divorced, still residing in Blue Island. I learned last week that John Edward left the family in about 1918, but the date of divorce is unknown. Thank you for whatever help you can give me. The cost of a search could be significant for me from a distance because I don¹t know the year of this event. Barbara
