The name, unfortunately, is too common for the SSDI. Thanks much for any leads! Diane

    2. Two questions for those of you who know something about the military. A friend in Ireland sent me a newpaper clipping about a likely relative of mine who visited relatives in Ireland in 1945. The clipping refers to him as a corporal in the US Navy. Did/does the Navy have corporals (I'd never heard of that before)? Assuming he's deceased by now, is there a government department I could contact to try to learn where he died? His name is fairly common so I can't pick him out of the SSDI. Thanks for any tips! 2. Robin Dombrowsky
    3. If you have access to Ancestry.com, you have the Newspaper Archive papers available. As with most databases, these do not include all newspapers or all times you would like them. If you would like to have access to old newspapers from around the country, look for the U. S. Newspaper Project pages from the state you are interested in on the Internet. This ongoing project is making many papers available for research on microfilm, some can be interlibrary loaned for little or no charge from the repository. For some large papers, ProQuest is digitizing the historical papers and making them available for lease to libraries. These now include the Chicago Tribune, New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Washington Post, and Atlanta Constitution. They are fairly expensive and not all libraries will purchase access to them.
