I didn't start going to the Aragon Ballroom until about 1940. It was a great place to dance and listen to the great bands of the day. Thanks for bringing back memories. I met my husband there. We were married for 62 years. Wish I could help you Dorothy
Could someone give me some ideas of how to find information on someone who lived in Chicago? I am trying to find information on Wilbur Edward WEAVER. In the 1920 census he was living in PA where he was born. In the 1930 census, the closest match I found was an Edward and Louise Weaver in Chicago, 49 Ward and he was 27 years old and was married at the age of 24. I know that Wilbur E. had 2 children in Chicago whose names I don't know and I don't know when they were born. I know that Wilbur E. was still alive in 1961 and living in Chicago. I thought of trying to find his obit, but from what I understand, there isn't an obit index in the newspapers for the time after 1961. Also, I've been told there isn't a state or city death index for after 1961. Is there a way to find marriage information where I could find out if this Edward and Louise are the right couple? From the census, I can see they married around 1927. I would like to find when Wilbur E. Weaver died, when and who he married, and information on his children. I am fairly new to researching in the Chicago area so any help or ideas will be appreciated. Thank you. Jan Stitz djstitz@sbcglobal.net
Listers, I have a Louis Yablon, Russian Immigrant, married to Bessie Eshifansky, living in Chicago in the 1930 census, but I cannot find an obituary for him or her. They had at least one daughter, Elsie Marie who was divorced or widowed from an Unknown Cooper. She and Nathan Katter received a marriage license in 1945 in Crown Point, Indiana. I assume she married him but I cannot find anything on them either. Can someone help me please? Rosemarie Johnson __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Once again, I need your help in finding obits for two Sternquist relatives: SSDI Elmer Sternquist Last Res: 60609 Chicago, Cook, IL Born: 13 Apr 1918 Died: Nov 1981 Issued: Illinois (Before 1951) SSDI Helen Sternquist Last Res: Midlothian, Cook Co., IL Born: 6 July 1921 Died: 24 Feb 1992 Issued: IL (Before 1951) Since Helen lived in a southern suburb at the time of her death, you may not find it in the Trib. I'm especially interested in finding the names of their children. Thanks, as always, Lois in CA
Judie and Jim, Thanks to both of you for the comments about Paulina St. My info came from a 1900 census sheet and an 1884 death cert. Neither indicated whether the street was So or No. In any case, I agree with you that the two addresses are separate residences. > Can anyone tell me if the house at 3637 Paulina Street in 1884 is the same > or near the same location as 763 Paulina Street in 1900? Was this area > part of the streets that were renumbered? Don't believe so. The renumbering took place in 1909, so since you gave pre-1909 addresses ... they would be different houses. Paulina Street is also numbered North and South. FYI - If 763 Paulina is North, then with the 1909 renumbering, it becomes 1532 N Paulina. 3637 N Paulina is not listed in the 1909 renumbering, but if it existed, it would have become something in the 5900 block of N Paulina. Similarly, 763 S Paulina is not listed per se, but if it existed, it would have become something in the 1600 block of S Paulina. The numbering on S Paulina did not go up to the 3600 block in pre-1909 numbering. Regards, Jim Sladek

I made a massive typo with that post - IDPH's IL marriage index only spans 1962-2005 - - not 1862 wishful thinking, and bad typing.. Hello, Can anyone tell me if the house at 3637 Paulina Street in 1884 is the same or near the same location as 763 Paulina Street in 1900? Was this area part of the streets that were renumbered? Hi List, I know this is a long shot with this name, but I would love if anyone could find an obit of Carl Fredolph Olson, I don't know when he died at all. He was born 31 Jan 1887 in Chicago. He married Della Averitt Hendrickson Kaplin in the late 1920's and they appear in the 1930 census on Waveland Ave. Della and Carl divorced-- and she eventually married her 4th and last husband. IF Viola Britvich married ____ Walker (or anybody else) - -anywhere in Illinois - from 1962-2005 - the IL Dept of Public Health can provide a Marriage Verification certificate. IDPH has a statewide IL database of marriages in IL 1862-2005 - and divorces in IL for that same time frame - and each search costs only $5.00. The form (for marriage verifications, anyway) - is titled "Application for Verification of Marriage Record Files" - the applicant/requestor should supply all possible information, if known. Info requested on the Application for Marriage verification: Groom: first, middle & last name Bride: first, middle & MAIDEN last name place of marriage: city, county, state date of marriage - - plus, the applicant/requestor's name & address. In this particular case, one would only complete the (known) name of the bride, the surname of the groom, and DEFINITELY make an additional note that the bride was born in 1939 - - because that information IS available to IDPH staffers in their database. I have been able to find multiple marriages (and several corresponding divorces~) for clients' research, by ONLY providing to IDPH the name of the bride, and her approximate date of birth. IDPH staff check all possible marriages in their databases, and can eliminate those for which the bride was definitely too young, or too old, to have been the one(s) I was seeking. [one case example: "Jane Doe" graduated from an IL high school in 1960, and an IL college in 1964; this made her birthyear about 1942/43. Cannot find her by her maiden name, so assumed she married after college. Hoping that she married in IL, I requested a marriage verification from IDPH. They found 3 marriages in IL during the 1962-2005 time frame: a - bride aged 48 as of 1977 marriage = birthyear abt 1939 - probably too early b - bride aged 17 as of 1980 marriage -- birthyear abt 1963 - too late c - bride aged 24 as of 1968 marriage - birthyear abt 1944 -- and that WAS the right marriage. The marriage verification certificate is NOT as comlete as a marriage license; all it provides is the names of bride & groom, city, county & date of marriage. (but that's more than what was known before~) I hope this info is of some help! molly Molly Kennedy P O Box 5785 Springfield, IL 62705 www.mollx.com Genealogy - Confusing the dead, and annoying the living. >From: Pattimeyers67@aol.com >Subject: [COOK-CO-IL] BRITVICH >To: COOK-CO-IL@rootsweb.com >Message-ID: <d5c.6d36a2a.335fe460@aol.com> >Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" > >Is anyone on the list familiar with Viola Britvich b 1939 who married a man >with the last name of Walker? > >Any help in locating her or her family would be appreciated, > >Thanks, > >Patti Meyers >Westmont, IL _________________________________________________________________ Interest Rates NEAR 39yr LOWS! $430,000 Mortgage for $1,299/mo - Calculate new payment http://www.lowermybills.com/lre/index.jsp?sourceid=lmb-9632-19132&moid=14888
Molly, I went to the IDPH website and found that divorces are only indexed from January 1, 1962 forward. In my case, my parents divorced (while living in Chicago) "around" 1953. when I was about 10 years old. My dad, Daniel Sternquist, was given custody of the three children which was unusual for the day. My brother and I have always wanted to know the actual date of their divorce, who filed for the divorce and the reason given. What other option do I have in locating their divorce records? Thanks. Lois
Shared with me. Elaine In September 2006 the Schaumburg Township District Library was awarded a grant from the Illinois State Library to digitize and place on the library's website a large portion of our local history videos. Our partners with this project were the Facilitators for the Preservation of Schaumburg Area History (FPSAH), Schaumburg Township Historical Society, Hoffman Estates Museum, and the villages of Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg. We are especially indebted to FPSAH for their efforts in seeking out so many of Schaumburg Township's living historians for the interview process. Unfortunately, many of these historians have since passed away but their history lives on through these interviews. We are very pleased with the digitized results and hope you are too. Please feel free to check out the digitized videos on our website at www.stdl.org<http://www.stdl.org/> Do submit any questions you might have by clicking on the Oral History Videos link or filling out the included form. In addition, the Schaumburg Township District Library requests the honor of your presence at the upcoming program, In Their Own Words: An Oral History of Schaumburg Township. The program will be held Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. to honor those who were a part of the history of Schaumburg Township. Many of those interviewed will be in attendance. We hope to see you there as well. Local History Librarian Schaumburg Township District Library
Hi Dara, I've only been on this list a short while and have found it to be very informative. Have you looked at the Illinois State Archives Database at: http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/departments/archives/databases.html ? In the pre-1916 death index, I found the following: Lehner, Christophe 12/10/1899 Chicago 56 yr #00011164 Cook Also, the Marriage Index lists a Lehner, John marrying a Leow, Bertha on 9/24/1882. Hope this helps.
