    1. [COOK-CO-IL] Request - World's Fair in Chicago, mid-late 1930's
    2. Molly Kennedy
    3. HI all - I recently learned that my Mom (almost 88) was a competitor in the typing/transcription contests (events?) at the Worlds' Fair in Chicago - Mom was only 15 when she graduated high school in 1935 - - She immediately to work for an attorney in Charleston IL -- but he (and everybody else) urged her to enter the typing/transcription competion. Mom said that while she was in Chicago, she stayed with her aunt & cousin (who lived in Chicago); her cousin was 26... and this "event" was the first time my Mom ever knowingly lied.. Her cousin Virginia, while escorting 15/16-year old Mary Agnes Sullivan around Chicago - - turned to my Mom and said "I'm 26 years old... I'd bet you think that's REALLY old, don't you?" My Mom - then a teenager -- emphatically shook her head & lied "NO, OH NO, That's not old at ALL!" What I would love to do - if anybody can help me with advice or resources/referrals - is to find a photo of the typing and/or transcription contest during that World's Fair in Chicago, in which my Mom was a teenage contestant. Even if the young Mary Agnes Sullivan is NOT in the photo - it would still help me bring back another proud moment in her life, of which she spoke so little in the past. Any suggestions - Please?? and Thank you!! molly Molly Kennedy P O Box 5785 Springfield, IL 62705 www.mollx.com Genealogy - Confusing the dead, and annoying the living. _________________________________________________________________ PC Magazine’s 2007 editors’ choice for best Web mail—award-winning Windows Live Hotmail. http://imagine-windowslive.com/hotmail/?locale=en-us&ocid=TXT_TAGHM_migration_HM_mini_pcmag_0507

    3. LaVerne: I have a family that changed its name, and I was not even aware of it until I contacted a distant cousin. She said her father changed it when she was a little girl, and she never knew why. I believe it may have been because he wanted to distance himself from his ethnic heritage (Polish). Another branch of the family suddenly started claiming to be from Germany at about the same time. 2. Dianna Saracco-Farish
    3. Hi All. Sometime ago someone from this group helped me and found a record of my Grandmother coming to the USA from Italy. I would be ever so grateful if someone can do this search for me. Her name was Elisabetha(?) Saracco nee Angelicchio. On the record "Saracco" was spelled "Sanacco" possibly a "n" at the end. She arrived in NY at Ellis Island May 27,1936 she had a child who was 11 months old with her. A son. If memory serves me right she was listed as last name Angelicchio and next to that it was written in "Sanacco". Thank you in advance for any help. Dianna Saracco-Farish NC

    3. This quote is from recent statutes governing name changes. I have no idea what was required in the past. You might want to determine what laws applied to the time of the name change. A large library probably houses the Illinois Civil Procedure Act. "Petition: The petition shall set forth the name then held, the name sought to be assumed, the residence of the petitioner, the length of time the petitioner has resided in this State, and the state or country of the petitioner's nativity or supposed nativity. The petition shall be signed by the person petitioning or, in case of minors, by the parent or guardian having the legal custody of the minor. The petition shall be verified by the affidavit of some credible person. Illinois Compiled Statutes, Chapter 735 Civil Procedure, Art. XXI Change of Name, Section 21-102."
