    1. [COOK-CO-IL] RANG Family Photograph
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" an old photograph of Walter RANG which was taken at the S. A. Rivkin Studio in Chicago, Illinois. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's or early 1900's with Walter likely in his teens at the time it was taken. In addition to his name, someone has written "Christmas Entertainment" on the back of the photograph. Walter is in costume in the photograph so I'm guessing that he was in a Christmas play or pageant, the reason for the additional comment. Based on limited research I was able to find this RANG Family in census records as follows: 1880 census of LaGrange, IL: Charles RANG, age 27, born Sweden, a Laborer, parents born Sweden Joanna RANG, wife, age 25, born NY, Keeps House, parents born Norway Walter RANG, son, age 1, born IL John LOSER, other, age 27, born Sweden, a Laborer, parents born Sweden 1900 census of Chicago, IL: Charles RANG, age 47, born May 1853, married 21 years, born Sweden, parents born Sweden, to USA 1874, a Showcase Maker Anna RANG, wife, age 45, born Mar 1855, married 21 years, 5 children/5 living, born IL, parents born Norway Walter C. 3. Harry is in the Cook County School for Boys. I found an Eva Carlsen age 35 born Michigan parents born Germany who is a stenographer children are Dorothy b. IL age 12 , Kenneth b. MA age 10 and Richard b. MA age 8 who are listed as step children of Eva's husband Chris. the children's surname is Swift. Is it possible she remarried before the 1930 census? This is the only Dorothy with a mother named Eva. I didn't find the other children listed anywhere. 3. Regarding James M(a)cDonald I found the family in the 1900 - 1910 - 1920 Census records for Chicago!! They are living on the south side where the rest of my Canadian family eventually settled. The 1900 census was especially helpful as it gives the month and year of birth which matches his known birth date. Perhaps the name of his wife and children will help in finding his obituary. James M(a)cDonald - Head - Born Feb 1870 Elizabeth - Wife born Feb 1877 Irene - Daughter bor Feb 1898 James - Son - born July 1899 Edward - Son - born abt 1905 Lois Hello good people... > > I'm hoping someone can find a really old obituary for: > > James Malcomb Donald McDonald (could be spelled MacDonald) > Born: February 8, 1870 in Elora, Ontario, Canada > Died: October 14, 1934 in Chicago. > > I don't have a wife's name or children's name but I strongly believe he > had a son James McDonald who was a cousin to my grandmother. 3. Could SKS help with a 1930 census lookup? Can't seem to find my Ggrandmother. I thought she went to live with her mother after she was widowed, but I found her mother in the census at 1124 Hickory in Chicago. Can't find Eva's family. Eva (Rutkowski) Sowka - widow, born 1893 in Chicago, so she'd be about 36 years old children: Florence (b. 1913) Harry (b. 1914) Loretta (b.1916) John Elmer (b.1917) Dorothy (b.1919) Any help would be greatly appreciated. 3. Hello good people... I'm hoping someone can find a really old obituary for: James Malcomb Donald McDonald (could be spelled MacDonald) Born: February 8, 1870 in Elora, Ontario, Canada Died: October 14, 1934 in Chicago. I don't have a wife's name or children's name but I strongly believe he had a son James McDonald who was a cousin to my grandmother. Gram made a point of telling me that that branch of the family spelled MacDonald without the "a". He would have had surviving sisters, Alma, Sarah Isabella, Kate Maude, and Ethel Florence...all of Ontario, Canada. Thanks so very much for your continued help in filling out my family tree. I couldn't do it without you. Lois in CA

    3. Hello All. I wish to thank everyone who helped in my search for records I lost! :-) In addition to the records for my Grandmother.. Elisabetta "Rose" Saracco ness Angelicchio, A kind soul who just happed to visit Ricigilano Italy the month before sent me pictures of the town with some building standing in rubble from the earthquake from 1980. This town is in the mountains of Italy and the pictures were totally amazing! They also sent pages for the town records that were dug out of rubble after the 1980 quake. This info confirmed all the research I did on my own! After moving to NC coast from Chicago I thought my research would be a dead end. Thanks to everyone with your help. ~Dianna Saracco-Farish~

    3. Also available at your local LDS Family History Center on microfilm. If not at that location, they can be rented for a period of 6 weeks from the main LDS library in Salt Lake City through your local FHC at a small fee. The films stay at the FHC for the period of time allotted and can be viewed there. 3. Not online, but maybe this will help. The Newberry Library in Chicago has city directories for that time period: http://www.newberry.org/genealogy/chicago.html *Chicago city directories*. 1839-1870 (irregular), _*1871-1917*_ (every year), 1923, 1928/29 on microfilm behind 2nd floor reference desk. Maybe the reference desk there can help you: http://www.newberry.org/genealogy/contact.html SHieber@aol.com wrote: > I am looking for Chicago City Directories for 1913, 1914, 1915, 1916, 1917. > Do they exist? > Are any online, since I do not live in Illinois? > > Could you suggest the libraries that might have these City Directories? > I hope to find who was living at an address in Chicago during these years. > >

    2. If they were in Chicago in the time of the fire, that will create a problem for you as records were lost. Don't forget to allow for the horrible spelling and interpretations of those who took the census's, etc. In the years I have been doing this the mutilations of even the simplest names would put some in shock.
