    1. [COOK-CO-IL] Question re: Coroner's Report
    2. Ruth Susmarski
    3. I went toe-to-toe with the Medical Examiner's Office about five years ago, to no avail whatsoever.  It's like every written communication fell into a black hole.  Promises over the phone never kept.  Calls never returned.  Maybe things have changed.  Let us know if you have any better luck.   Ruth --- On Mon, 3/29/10, Kim Stankiewicz <[email protected]> wrote: From: Kim Stankiewicz <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [COOK-CO-IL] Question re: Coroner's Report To: "'Mary Snow'" <[email protected]>, [email protected] Date: Monday, March 29, 2010, 2:39 PM Has anyone had any luck getting one of these lately?  My understanding is that they are understaffed and files from years ago for genealogists are not a priority. 3. I can only speak about the Daily News, but I have access to archive copies on microfilm beginning with July 1876. I'm not sure if the paper started in 1876, or if that's the date the University chose to start filming. Either way it looks like the Chicago Daily News was in business at least a hundred years before printing their last issue on March 4, 1978.     Relatively speaking, Laura   Searching for my TOLF ancestors and their descendants in Sweden and Illinois  http://livinginthepastlane.com, http://livinginthepastlane.blogspot.com/, http://twitter.com/itsallrelatives   Volunteer for RAOGK at http://www.raogk.org/ ________________________________ From: "[email protected]" <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Cc: [email protected] Sent: Sun, March 28, 2010 4:10:30 PM Subject: Re: [COOK-CO-IL] What was there? 1. [COOK-CO-IL] Rosehill Cemetery Records
    2. Years ago (maybe 30) I found that my great grandfather had been buried at Rosehill Cemetery. I wrote and received a map of the cemetery showing the location of his grave. On the back it gave statistics of the burial, things also found on his death certificate. Additionally, someone went out and photographed his gravestone and that's how I learned from the emblem on the stone that he had been a Mason. There was a short message by a person named Kiki Cardova. The correspondence was very helpful. I can't believe that they destroyed the records. Try again. Sharon

    2. Mary Lynn Fuller
    3. ILLINOIS OPEN ORGANIZATION www.ilopen.org IMMEDIATE HELP NEEDED ILLINOIS HB 5428 - DO NOT PASS We have an urgent situation in Illinois and we need your help. A conditional access bill, HB 5428, sponsored by Rep. Sara Feigenholtz (D-Chgo), has passed the House of Representatives and is sitting in the Assignment Committee of the Senate, waiting to be referred to a standing Senate Committee. The chief sponsor of the bill in the Senate is Senator A. J. Wilhelmi (Dem -Joliet). Chief Co-Sponsors are Senator Ira Silverstein (Dem-Chgo) and Senator Iris Y.Mendez (Dem-Chgo) Please urge the senators to stop HB 5428 in its tracks. Ask them to hold it in committee until an amendment can be worked out that will treat all adoptees equally. 100% of Illinois adoptees must be able to request and receive their original birth certificates, without any restrictions, such as prior parental approval. If that cannot happen, then HB 5428 must be pulled or left to die in the Assignments Committee. HB 5428 does not treat adopted adults equally. 1)Adoptees whose birth parents file an affidavit of denial of information will not get their original birth certificate. 2)Adoptees born before Jan. 1, 1946 will get their obcs with no strings attached. However, adoptees born after this date must adhere to the criteria set up in the bill which allows a birth parent to file an affidavit of denial that could result in no issuance of a birth certificate or a birth certificate with all identifying information redacted. Adoptees' birth records were never sealed to protect the anonymity or confidentiality of birth parents. How can you tell? Because the birth certificates of children relinquished by their birth mothers are never sealed. Only at the time that an adoption decree is signed by the court is the original birth certificate ordered sealed and an amended one issued. Sealing the birth records was the state's way of making sure that no one interferes with the unity of the new, legal family created by adoption. If sealing records were meant to protect birth mothers, then the sealing would take place at the time of relinquishment - not at the time of adoption. .
