    3. Looking in a 1871 street guide I find a name with the following address designation: res. Samuel, bet. Chicago av. and Clarinda. In the street name change database at Rootsweb, I cannot get a hit on either Samuel or Clarinda. Nor can I find them on a current Chicago map. Any ideas? Thanks, Bart

    2. THOMAS MACKOWIAK
    3. Bart asked about a street name Samuel Street which was between Chicago Avenue and Clarinda Street in an 1871 Chicago street guide. Bart, I checked the Chicago Street name change guide at the Chicago History Museum's website. You should be able to get to the street name change guide using this URL: http://www.chsmedia.org/househistory/nameChanges/start.pdf I found that Samuel Street became Hermitage Avenue from 800 to 1199 North. Hermitage Avenue is 1734 West and it runs from 34 to 7800 North and from 300 to 9100 South. Clarinda Street changed to Pearson Street with is 844 North (about a half block north of Chicago Avenue which is 800 North) from 1500 to 1799 West. I hope this helps you. 2. Sorry. I didn't intend to send this to the Cook County BB. Karen I just discovered that the Freedom of Information Act pertains only to federal agencies. Is the coroner a federal agency?? NO. In Calif. they also have a public records act. Wonder if the state of IL has something like that? Did you call Cook County? Or put a query on the [email protected]_ (mailto:[email protected]) ? Also … in the list of your permanent films on loan, do you happen to have: 2004 324 ?? This would be Koszuty Births 1831-1875. I think I may have found some Janiszewski records, but not sure. I only have Sanniki and its neighboring community records. Sorry. What’s new in Laguna Niguel? We have had our granddaughters with us for the two weeks they were out of school. They are taking diving lessons across the street in the Laguna Niguel City Diving Pool. They love it! They go home tomorrow.....it will then return to quiet and less driving. Oh well. We'll get them again for two weeks in the summer..... 3. Using this site, you can find the closest churches to their residence. Unfortunately, it doesn't tell you what nationality most frequented these parishes. If needed, I will be going to my FHL next week and can look the closest one up for you for Irish parishioners. 1. Re: [COOK-CO-IL] Any Suggestions?
    2. Have you checked the kiosks at your nearest archdiocesan cemetery? They have the records for all the cemeteries, and may be more reliable than a phone call to Calvary. I visited Calvary last fall with my kiosk information in hand showing the locations of family graves. The fellow at the desk said he had no additional information, but when I returned to the office 45 minutes later, he was helping a woman who had brought a coffeecake. Somewhat embarassed, he then pulled some cards with information on my graves, too. It taught me a lesson--be pleasant but persistent, and bring coffeecake! Diane

    2. Hi I have 2 death certificates that say Calvary Cemetery 1 month old Lillie Manke 4/27/1894 2 year old Albert Manke 8/16/1892 Calvary says they are not there. I can see maybe one record mistake....but both children? Any ideas of what I can do next? This could be very crucial information for my research since none of that family that died later was buried at Calvary. But the mother WAS married to an Irish man that died in 1884 (they are not buried with him though. Linda in Lemont

    3. Also, the kiosks are a great resource as Diane mentioned, but I have found that not all information has been inputted into the kiosks. The cemetery that you are in referring to may not have updated all of the earlier information into their computer/kiosk since it was so long ago. The information may be in a filing cabinet not easily accessible. I agree with Diane, be persistent but pleasant. Regards, Kim "Have you checked the kiosks at your nearest archdiocesan cemetery? 3. There was a discussion about these records on another list recently. Apparently some records (or copies of records) were stored off-site and they are being sent to the archives as they are uncovered. Records have been found when government offices are closed or consolidated and old storage is evaluated. The advice given by the contributor on that list was to check back with the archives periodically. Something may turn up about your ancestor eventually.   Relatively speaking, Laura   Searching for my TOLF ancestors and their descendants in Sweden and Illinois  http://livinginthepastlane.com, http://livinginthepastlane.blogspot.com/, http://twitter.com/itsallrelatives   Volunteer for RAOGK at http://www.raogk.org/ ________________________________ However, all Illinois records prior to '72-'73 were housed in St. Louis.
