    3. Does anyone know how to search the LDS Pilot Site for Cook County birth certificates by year? I was lucky enough to find four death certificates in the new LDS pilot. However, I can't find the birth certificates. Thank you for any help you can give me. Linda

    1. Re: [COOK-CO-IL] LDS Beta & LDS-Pilot Sites
    2. The "redundancy" seems typical to me in this kind of beta site. You wouldn't really want the data that was there before to "disappear." I did two searches. I've been looking for my grandfather in the 1920 US census for years. I know where he should have been because I know where an aunt was born a few days after the census date. Even searching on my grandfather's name, in every search engine I know of, and asking for volunteers in that county to search, hasn't turned them up. I tried just now as searn as I learned of the beta test. HIs name didn't turn him up there, though most of the data points I knew of did show up. Using her name, there she was! So I'm very grateful to this beta site. It would have seemed strange to NOT see all the stuff I'm used to finding on this couple. It provides the context. I would expect them to add the new data in, not just provide a new data set. They may actually be holding them separate, but fold them together for the user until all the glitches are out. P.S.: Beta is a term used for a pre-release version that is put out to the testers--in this case the users-- to find any bugs in the program. Then the bug fixes are applied and the final version is released. I believe you will see only one search engine when they migrate later this year. 3. Ruth and all listers, According to the article in today's (4/29/10) Deseret News (companion newspaper to the Salt Lake City Tribune):      "Family Serach President Jay Verkler said 300 million MORE names will be available online this week      through the LDS Church's family history service.  We're going to do it (the release) on a new website        we're creating called beta.family search.org."           "The newly added records augment a few hundred million indexed names already accessible on a previous FamilSearch website.  They come largely from U.S. collections and from some parts of Europe.  Verkler said the flow of names to the Web will continue as the LDS seeks to index all of the 3.5 billion names stored on the microfilm in their mountain vault.  It will take about 10 years to index all the records, a task previously projected to take more than a century to complete.'' They say it is just a trial (the new Beta and there have been Betas of both the main site and the Pilot site) and some day they will merge the Pilot site and the familysearch.org but they don't say when <G> I have to appreciate they aren't messing with a good thing <G> until they have worked at it. 2. There was also a Little Flower High School. I went there 3 years. From my understanding, the high school was sold to the Chicago Public Schools. I am sure of the time but it was not too much after I entered the Marines or after I was discharged; maybe early to mid 70's. There a little neighborhood store we used to hang at on Wood between 79th & 80th. Bill

    3. Bill Karr wrote that he attended Little Flower High School. Bill, You might want to check out this URL: http://www.illinoishsglorydays.com/id746.html for information on Little Flower High School and what became of the building. For anyone else interested in closed high schools in Illinois, you can check out the above website without the "id" information at the end. Someone mentioned this website either on this mailing lists or one of the other Chicago/Cook County rootsweb.com mailing lists. The website covers the whole State of Illinois in case you are interested in a high school in another part of Illinois. If you Google Little Flower High School Chicago, there are a number of websites that Google will list that might be of interest to alumni of Little Flower High School. 2. Yes, Tom that is exactly right. I went to the Archdiocese with my friend ( the Alumni) and they stated when Little Flower closed, they handed them over everything. There are tons of class room photos and boxes of pictures and things. I do believe you need an appointment by well worth the trip.
