    3. Hi Bart:   Thanks so much for the excellent suggestion.   I would really only have one day for research. The four-day weekend is a family event. My idea was to come a day early, but I'm starting to wonder if it would be worth the expense.   Linda in Boston   --- On Wed, 5/19/10, Bart Hansen <[email protected]> wrote: From: Bart Hansen <[email protected]> Subject: [COOK-CO-IL] Visit to Chicago To: [email protected] Date: Wednesday, May 19, 2010, 11:42 AM As others have suggested, check the hours of those places you will visit. 1. [COOK-CO-IL] Calvary Catholic Cemetery look up request
    2. Lilly Martin
    3. Hello, I read the recent posting discussing Catholic records available online at Wilmette Family History Center. I live overseas, might I kindly ask if anyone, ever, is going to that facility to do a look up for me? Anton B. Zaremba 1816-1891 Magadelana Zaremba 1838-1900 The above couple were husband and wife, and their obits stated they were buried in Calvary. I know their death dates, but I need to confirm the BIRTH dates. Also: is there a way to know who is buried near them? Their son Adolf Zaremba's obit said he was buried at Oakwoods, so I suppose he is not buried with his parents. Also: Anton B. Zaremba was a very famous Civil War commander, I wonder if his grave stone mentions his Unit Number? Many times a soldiers grave is marked with his unit description. If there is anyone who can help me on this project I will be very grateful. Best regards, Lilly Martin

You just might want to do a little searching on that site and see what else you can find. 1. [COOK-CO-IL] Henrietta (Borski) Naselli Varnodo - CORRECTED
    2. Ruth Susmarski
    3. Thanks Masugu.  I'd seen all the obits, but found no clues about Henrietta.   Also searched variations of the surname VARNODO (as listed in her mother's obit), including VARNODOE, VARNADO, VARNADOE, VORNODO, VORNODOE, VORNADO AND VORNADOE.   I phoned both Resurrection Cemetery, where Anna Borski is buried, and St. Mary Cemetery in Evergreen Park, where her husband August Borski is buried, as well as Pomierski Funeral Home, who handled her arrangements.  This funeral home, by the way, appears to still be family run and boy can you tell!  No brush off and a great desire to be helpful.  They pulled their records and got back to me in less than a half hour.   I have inquired about a baptismal record (about 1920) from St. Mary of Perpetual Help, where August and Anna married, but they require a form to be completed and submitted together with a $10 non-refundable fee for the look-up.  Since August and Anna's 1911 marriage did not produce children until about 1920, when Henrietta came along, I'm wondering if she might have been adopted.  Searched six ways from Sunday on the LDS Birth Cert Index without success.   This afternoon, I drafted and will mail a letter to Anna's nephew.  When Anna died, her sister, Marie Ryband, made the funeral arrangements.  Marie had one child, a son Robert, who is still living in Bridgeport, where the family settled a century ago, so perhaps he can be helpful.   Thanks everyone for your input.   Ruth --- On Tue, 5/18/10, Masugu <[email protected]> wrote: From: Masugu <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [COOK-CO-IL] Henrietta (Borski) Naselli Varnodo - CORRECTED To: [email protected] Date: Tuesday, May 18, 2010, 2:23 PM Hey Ruth; I tried hard to find anything in the obits on Henrietta w/ no joy.  Perhaps the following obits will provide you w/ some leads. 2. Burial records for Chicago archdiocesan cemeteries are on computers at most of the cemeteries, including Calvary in Evanston and All Saints in Des Plaines, both convenient to Wilmette. You can search records for all the cemeteries at any of the computers. You could quickly determine if the records survive. Diane

    2. If I were you, I'd call the Hyde Park FHC to be sure about those films. In addition to visiting churches and cemeteries, you might use Googleearth to see if the old houses are still standing. Finally, if you have time, the Newberry Library is great for Chicago genealogy. Diane

    3. Keep in mind, Linda, that the hours for the Wilmette Family History Library are as follows:   Tuesday & Thursday:  10AM to 3PM  and 6:30PM to 9:30PM Saturday:  9AM to 1PM   They operate on reduced hours for month of August, and it might be a good idea to check the LDS website to see about other dates they may not be open.    Because Wilmette's hours have changed in the past year, verify the current hours if you plan to visit.  They used to have Wednesday hours the same as Tuesday & Thursday.  Then they cut back to only evening hours and later eliminated Wednesday altogether...a bummer for me since I have Wednesdays off.   Also, the Chicago death certificate collection there is 1878 through1947.  Since 1878 through 1922 are now online, the collection still provides death certificates for the following 25 years.   The Catholic church records are phenomenal.   Ruth --- On Tue, 5/18/10, arleen gould <[email protected]> wrote: From: arleen gould <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [COOK-CO-IL] Visit to Chicago To: "Linda Kush" <[email protected]> Cc: [email protected] Date: Tuesday, May 18, 2010, 7:39 AM I think you might find the Wilmette FHC the one you really want to visit. 3. Hi Linda,   We talked about this a while back, but I just wanted to remind you not to get your hopes up with regard to early cemetery records from St. Adalbert.   Though the cemetery opened in 1872, it was a Bohemian Catholic cemetery.  When the Poles came in, sometime in the very late 1870s or early 1880s, in their anger, the Bohemians destroyed all of the burial records they had kept.   The earliest record for a burial I've found at St. Adalbert for a family member is November 1879, which was for an infant in a term grave.  While most term graves are identified by a Section letter(s) and Grave number, this record did not even have that information...only a name and burial date.   Regrettably, St. Adalbert did not keep good records for old term burials.  Even if they can translate an old Section letter(s) (example: Section M or MW) to the new Section (now identified by a number or name - example: Section 48 or St. Hedwig Section), they cannot tell you where, within the Section, any old term grave is/was located.   St. Adalbert sold term graves until sometime around 1960, and perhaps kept better records for the later ones, but hoping to locate early term graves there is a lost cause.   Ruth --- On Tue, 5/18/10, Linda Kush <[email protected]> wrote: From: Linda Kush <[email protected]> Subject: [COOK-CO-IL] Visit to Chicago To: [email protected] Date: Tuesday, May 18, 2010, 6:30 AM Hi Cooksters: I'll be in Chicago for a four-day weekend with my sisters in July. 1. [COOK-CO-IL] Henrietta (Borski) Naselli Varnodo - CORRECTED
    2. Ruth Susmarski
    3. PLEASE DISREGARD MY PREVIOUS EMAIL.  TWO BORSKI BROTHERS (LEO & AUGUST) MARRIED TWO KASZEWSKI SISTERS (LILLIAN & ANNA), AND I PICKED UP THE WRONG INFO.  THE FOLLOWING IS CORRECT...HONEST!     I don't have many brick walls left, but let me toss this one out to you.   August Borski (b. 7-03-1889 in West Prussia & d. 8-22-1931 in Chicago) married Anna Kaszewski (b. Abt. 1896 in New York & d. 10-13-1963 in Chicago) at St. Mary of Perpetual Help in Chicago on January 25, 1911.   August and Anna had one child, a daughter HENRIETTA, born about 1920.   Henrietta apparently married a Salvatore Naselli (indexed as Maselli) in July 1942.  In her mother's obituary, Henrietta appears with the last name Varnodo.  Resurrection Cemetery, where Anna (Kaszewski) Borski is buried, says the arrangements were made by Anna's sister, not her daughter.   That's the last I have on Henrietta.  I must be missing something, but what?  Any help as to what became of her greatly appreciated.   Ruth

    1. [COOK-CO-IL] ordering LDS films on-line
    2. (Courtesy of my Carlow mailing list) Pat Connors of Irish-America rootsweb put this up today: Did you know, that if you use a Family History Center (Family History Library) near you and you would like to order a film, that you can do it online? I didn't and I visit mine twice a week. Sometimes, I go over there just to order a film. I found out today that you can now order films at their website, pay for them online and your center will call you, as usual, when then arrive. Here is the url for ordering: https://films.familysearch.org/default.aspx If you are in Australia, New Zealand and/or the British Isles, there is a link on the left side that will take you here: https://film.familysearch.org/ Before ordering the films, you need to open an account with them.
