Hi Beth, Have you tried to find out if the funeral home still exists? They might have the records if they are still in operation. Do you know if there are other family members buried at Mount Greenwood? If so, maybe she is buried with them, and not recorded properly. Are the interment books kept by date? Did they have any burials around the date of death? Maybe if you were to look at the books yourself, you might be able to recognize something that the office person could not. Was she Catholic? Maybe you can get some information from her church. If she was moved at a later date, the information from her original burial location should still be there. I have an ancestor & his wife buried at one cemetery. I had found their burials in a published book of the burials of that cemetery, and found their headstone. Many years later, I found the obituaries which said they were buried in a different cemetery. Maybe they planned to bury your relative at Mount Greenwood, but then changed to another cemetery. If there are other members of this family, you might want to figure out where they are, and see if she is with them. You could also check www.findagrave.com to see if she shows up anywhere. Beth Do you have the death certificate for the son who died in 1919? It may tell which funeral home the body was sent too. Also, check the newspaper in Port Jervis, often they will list the death notice and sometimes the cemetery. Was there still family living in Mt. Jervis? If so you might check as to where they are buried. As for the mother who died in 1911, is the funeral home still in business that took care of the body? They may still have some records dating back that far. Good Luck Pat
Beth, Have you tried the Orange County Genealogical Society at http://www.ocgsny.org/ ? Or the Minisink Valley HIstorical Society at http://www.minisink.org/ , also there is a cemetery listing at http://minisink.org/cemeter.html . Would there be an obit in the Chicago paper from 1987 for Eulalia Suzanne NIESEN? THat's my grandma, and she was born in 1897 and died in 1987. Of course, she was born in Chicago but she died in South Bend Indiana, St Joseph County. But I have seen obits and birth announcements from Wisconsin for my family members who were born in South Bend. So I was hoping i could find the same type of info in Chicago. Thank you. I think Grandma (Eulalia) died in January of 1987, Thanks again John Dvorak
The obituary appeared in the South Bend Tribune. You can contact the St. Joseph County Public Library for the obituary; a form is available: http://www.sjcpl.org/obits/search_form.php The actual obituaries can be viewed in Local & Family History Services in Main Library. If you live at a distance, you can place a request for an obituary and local history search. Not in Chicago Tribune Archives nor is it archived at legacy.com. The obituary would be for Eulalia Dvorak: SSDI: EULALIA DVORAK 25 May 1897 Jan 1987 46616 (South Bend, St Joseph, IN); card issued Indiana. Marion, if no one can find her in the Trib archives, you might order film for the Chicago Daily News for those dates through your local library, as the Daily News had more Irish American obituaries. Diane
