Not that I have any prison inmates who died in Chicago area, but I just wanted to let people know that I also have deceased prison inmate ancestor in New York. I have managed to dig up virtually his whole story from the time he was arrested until the time he died at Sing Sing. Quite interesting! Hi everyone, from a wet Somerset UK. (at long last, some welcome rain.....) My Father's aunt Elizabeth Parsons emigrated to Chicago in 1906. Other very kind seekers have given me much valuable assistance in providing the details shown below. The WW1 Draft registration shows that her son FREDERICK GEORGE HIGGS had at least one child. Sadly no one has been able to find the family in the 1920, so I have no identity for that child or even if he/she survived infancy. My son-in-law is obtaining the 3 death certificates to see if they help. Can any one else please help in identifying this child (who would be my second cousin) and if he/she survived to possibly have a family of their own? Many thanks, Fred Boulton 6. This was on another list I subscribe to and it is very interesting. Just thought I would share. The U.S. Census for 1940 will be released in April 2012. The following are the training films used for the census enumerators. It is far more extensive than any census before. It is worthwhile to see what they are asking. You will get a better idea of what you can expect to find by viewing all the little films. http://blog.eogn.com/eastmans_online_genealogy/2010/07/1940-census-training-in-now-online.html Alice Fluegge

A big thanks to Masugu & to Ruth Susmarski for sending a ton of info on my families. You both provided new names & avenues to pursue in fleshing out this family. I really appreciate your efforts & results. Judy in Alaska
Yes, this is a good point. The SSDI is available on a lot of different websites. Some sites update their data more often. You can also search by different criteria at the different sites, so it's worth checking out the differents sites that have the SSDI. There's no doubt the SSDI is missing a lot of people. I'm sure there are transciption errors, and missing batches of data that were not input correctly, just like every other database. But, I was trying to point out that technically, it should appear there, once the person was reported to have died. If the person is not there it is more likely due to an error, rather than the fact that the person in question is/was a death row inmate. Unfortunately the SSDI is far from perfect. In my experience, most states have an online database for Department of Corrections. If the prisoner is not listed in that database, all I've ever had to do is to email to the DOC Concact on that state's DOC website; usually, within a few weeks, I receive (via snail-mail) all pertinent information about that prisoner. Cook listers have come thru for me before, so I'm hoping someone can look for obits for George & Marie (Sykora) Beam. Marie was born abt 1903, Tupadly, Bohemia. Her parents were Vaclav/James Sykora & Marie (Horalec) Sykora. I have the 1930 Denni Hlasatel obit for Marie Sykora, which gives daughter Marie's married name as Beam, with husband George. Marie Beam had a sister Winifred Sykora (b. 1909 & not married by her mother's death date) & a brother Joseph (b. 1899 but not mentioned in his mother's obit, so he may have passed by 1930). No other info on Winifred. So far, I have found possibilities in the census & military records for George Beam, but nothing firm, so I'm hoping for a Chicago Trib obit for either George or Marie. Thanks in advance for any possible obits. Judy, in Alaska
