Bonifacious is Latin for Boniface, and there's only one St. Boniface Cemetery in Chicago that I know of. Have you checked a Chicago archdiocese Catholic cemetery kiosk? Each one shows burials in all Chicago Catholic cemeteries. Perhaps they ended up in a different cemetery. I had some Protestant ancestors in 1840s Ireland who converted to Catholicism and married Catholics. Don't know which came first, but I suspect love had a hand in it. Diane
You all are always so helpful so I thought I would get your take on this. On the IRAD site and LDS pilot site I find an Anna Radoy died 26 Jan 1891, and a Rosy Radoy died 17 Jun 1892. On both death cert. they say place of burial Bonifacious. I have the Interment record for the Catholic cemeteries and neither one is listed for St. Boniface. Are Bonifacious and St. Boniface one and the same? Question #2 - my Radoy family had 4 children. The parents and 3 of the children plus their ancestors records all point to them being Catholic. However, my great grandfather, one of the original 4 children and his wife were Lutheran. Back in the 1870s - 1890s would this have been unusual for one of the children to marry someone outside the families faith? Or did he leave the faith for love? Anyone else come across this? Thanks, Gail
Hi Gail, In my research I found several people who married outside the Catholic Church, and I wondered about them. I guess it might have made a difference how old they were, how close they lived to the rest of the family, and how "Catholic" they considered themselves. All of them were buried from a Catholic Church, but at that point the priest does not need to check their Catholic ID to see if they were practicing. I have two who married in the Lutheran Church and one who married in the Methodist Church. Doing this did provide a "church wedding" for the benefit of their parents and other family members who might have otherwise been upset. There is probably no way to know for sure unless a living relative knows the real story. Oops! I meant to include the link which had the note about the missing EDs in Ward 14 in the 1920 Chicago census. Very nice of them to add that information. http://www.alookatcook.com/1920/14Warddescriptbl.htm I think I just solved at least part of the mystery. At the website where I was looking at enumeration districts for Ward 14, there is a note on the very first district listed that says "Note: EDs 819-839 are not included in the Ancestry.com census images or the NARA film descriptions. These census images do exist and are included in NARA Roll T625-323 (part II)." So there is hope to find anyone in those EDs. Michele

I'm really puzzled now and hope someone more knowledgeable about Chicago can help with this. I thought I'd see if I could find the Erie St. address in the 1920 census. I used maps and the ward and enumeration district descriptions from the website below. As far as I can tell, it looks like the address she is looking for should be in Ward 14 with a district numbered in the 820s, maybe 823 or 824 or at least in that area. http://www.alookatcook.com/1920/14Warddescriptbl.htm Looking in Ancestry at the 1920 census for Chicago, Ward 14, some of the enumeration districts are available but numbers 819 through 839 are missing from the Ward 14 list of districts. I don't really know Chicago well, so it would be great if someone who does could give an opinion on this. Where are those EDs? Are they only missing in Ancestry or are they completely missing from the census records? I'm not finding them in the 1930 census either. Have you tried searching for their 1930 neighbors in 1920 to see if they lived nearby? How old would Wasyl and Katherine have been in 1920? Many thanks to Patti Meyers and Masugu for their efforts! If THEY can't find the family of Wasyl Pylypiw in the 1920 Census, I'm inclined to think the census taker missed them. Ruth
