Here you go Lisa. Hope this helps. Dick I haven't had time to read all the Happy 99 messages today. If I'm being redundant, I apologize. I want to delete all these messages without reading them, so let me speak from experience. The Happy 99 WORM (it's not a virus) was disseminated primarily through usenet groups earlier this year. I am a computer professional; i.e., I'm a computer PROF. I received an e-mail attachment from an engineer and computer colleague that had Happy 99 attached. This was in January. I opened the attachment because he is a trusted friend and informed user; I received a graphic display of fireworks. I sent him a thank you note. He didn't know he'd sent it. Further investigation yielded the information that this worm had been attached to e-mails to usenet groups ( and he's a subscriber to many) and it's proliferated through lists ever since. In its original form, it's totally benign and you just delete the ska.exe file, liste.ska, and other *.ska or ska.* files your find in a FIND search. I was NOT on any lists at the time I received it, so I didn't spread it. However, when he notified me he'd sent it to me, I discovered the ska.exe file and it had over written my winsock 32.dll with ska.dll. If it does its full-blown thing, it creates a limited liste.ska file where it keeps a record of to whom it's sent itself, but it's limited. That's how I was notified; I turned up in his liste.exe file. I didn't have one. I just deleted everything *.ska and ska.* and was rid of it. I did have to delete my winsock32.dll because it's the corrupted version. The ska.dll is the backup it creates. My system is fine. At some point, a hacker is going to get a hold of the code and can put something more malevolent into it than currently exists. It is now just a nuisance. SO......use FIND and type in ska.* If any files appear in the dialogue box, delete them. Then do a FIND on *.ska If any files appear, delete them. If you've got a liste.ska, you owe it to the people on the list to notify them and give them any of the zillion sites mentioned in these lists for instructions on how to get rid of it. It's not a big deal. The most annoying thing was having to delete my winsock32.dll file and let it be overwritten by ska.dll. But, everything still works just fine. This is not a cause for panic. It's harmless. For now. Just do the FIND, delete it if you've got it, notify any people on the liste.ska file if you've got one, and it's over.
