Hello all, I just wanted to write & let you know I was at the Family History Library today when the shootings occurred. I was just preparing to go downstairs when I had a thought to stop and ask a lady on the 2nd floor info desk some info abt a microfilm. That thought probably saved my life. Within 30 seconds of being at the desk waiting for her to grab a book, we heard 2 shots then looked at each other. It was deathly quiet as if everyone was trying to figure out what the noise was. Then after abt 3 seconds later we heard 3 more shots and then a woman scream. We deduced it was actually a gun we heard and we all ran for the back stair exits. I was so scared the gunman would come upstairs. It was such a sad day to hear of the many victims shot for no reason. One who died was a security guard, Don Thomas, at the front desk who was a friend of Bruce's whom he used to work in the security dept. with. He leaves 4 children and an invalid wife. Bruce had just been at that same security desk 30 minutes prior to the shootings waiting for me to arrive at the library and chat with me before I spent time researching and then break to meet him for lunch. We missed each other however. Please know that the world is a scary place but that we must all do what we feel we must and that I personally have NOT resigned myself to discontinue my visits to the library. This could have happened to anyone anywhere. Please pray for the families of the vicitims. It was so disheartening to know that this situation happened in a place that is known for it's peaceful feeling & research productiveness. I am well. Just shaken up a bit at the traumatic experience. Continue on in the family history work my friends. Marilyn
