Another researcher and I were just discussing this and what you have to remind yourself is that what you find is just a jumping off place to look for the documentation. And remember that just because you got it out of a book of the history of the location you are searching, don't make it so! An ancestor of mine has been perpetuated as being the daughter of a John Hicks of Bradford Co, PA. But it was confused with another Hicks daughter of the same name who married a nephew of my ancestor and they had the same name. It's found in Heverly's History of Bradford Co, and it's in error, but just try to fix it! On another page of the history it gives this John Hicks age and he's about the same age as my ancestor, so couldn't be her father, more likely a brother. Needless to say, I'm still searching.
