JOEL COOK born about 1759 in Bertie County, North Carolina. He married BELLSION FLOYD on March 26, 1784 in Bertie County. JOEL COOK was married for a second time to PATIENCE BRASSELL on May 9, 1797. Shortly after his second marriage, the couple moved to Chatham County, North Carolina where he purchased 555 acres of land from JOHN PITTS JR. on September 17, 1798. They then moved to the Sumner/Davidson County area of Tennessee around 1805 where JOEL was the administrator of his brother JOHN COOK'S estate. JOEL COOK patented land in Gallatin County, Illinois in 1819 and was in Morgan County, Illinois by 1828. He died in Morgan County around March of 1830, his wife PATIENCE followed him in death prior to the Spring of 1832. He married ELIZABETH BARNES on May 5, 1822 in Sumner County, Tennessee, This couple was in the Census of 1850 for St. Clair County, Missouri. CLARISSA COOK born September 11, 1788 in Bertie County. She married JOHN UNDERWOOD on February 27, 1810 in Davidson County, Tennessee. This couple moved to Sangamon County, Illinois in the late 1820's and died there. LAWRENCE COOK born March 30, 1790 in Bertie County. He most likely preceeded his father in death, leaving no heirs. AUGUSTINE COOK born April 18, 1791 in Bertie County. He most likely preceeded his father in death, leaving no heirs. REUBEN COOK born February 10, 1793 in Bertie County. He married MARY "POLLY" NEELY on August 7, 1820 probably in Davidson County, Tennessee. They moved to either Morgan or Adams County, Illinois around 1828. TURNER COOK born March 28, 1796 in Bertie County. He married ELIZABETH DURHAM on September 27, 1817 in Sumner County, Tennessee. This couple moved to Gallatin County, Illinois where they spent the rest of their lives. Children of JOEL COOK and PATIENCE BRASSELL were: THOMAS COOK born in either Bertie or Chatham County on August 26, 1798. He married MARY ANN "POLLY" HAMPTON on December 18, 1823 in Gallatin County, Illinois. This couple spent the rest of their lives in Gallatin/Saline County, Illinois. BENJAMIN F. COOK born in Chatham County on November 24, 1800. He married NANCY BARNES in Sumner County, Tennessee. This couple moved to Morgan County, Illinois by 1828 and on to Winchester, Scott County, Illinois by 1840. They were still there in 1860. MARY CO0K born in Chatham County on July 23, 1804. She was single and living in Morgan County, Illinois in the early 1830's SARAH COOK born in Sumner/Davidson County on March 11, 1808. She was married to JOSEPH P. DEATON in Morgan County, Illinois on August 4, 1829. The couple spent the rest of their lives there. TELITHA COOK born before 1810 in Sumner/Davidson County. She was single and living in Morgan County, Illinois in the early 1830's It is THOUGHT that JOEL COOK was the son of WILLIAM COOK who died in Bertie County, North Carolina in 1785. WILLIAM COOK'S estate was PROBATED in the August Term 1785. Named was wife, MARY; sons, JOHN and JOEL; daughter ELIZABETH MORRIS; sons DEMSEY, REUBEN and WILLIAM.
